scored my half-eight mini inferno. hurrah
I got THIS today, and I'm pumped! It actually came with a 9.6v kyosho NMHd pack, which kinda sucks for my needs.
I'm about to start the process of tearing it down (and hopefully getting it back together propperly). I have a metric shit load of alloy and titanium for it, mamba comp pkg, and novak xxl AM 27mhz reciever for it, and a couple Xtreme42s gp1100 packs from unitedrc.com (special made with 16ga for Cap't Overkill here).
Next up will be a 11.1 badass lipo from unitedrc.com followed by (hopefully) 3racing BB diffs or the new inferno ST diffs, and Boca ceramic bearings.
Pics and video will be coming when I get all this crap installed.

fun: 10/10
manual: it's kyosho... haha
Handleing: understeers a little on grippy surfaces, but I think the ride height was too high. Handles great in dirt 9/10
Strong: The plastic is more like graphite than any plastic I've seen on a kyosho model. It is like the plastic on the T-Maxx or upgrade plastic on the XXX-NT. Very strong! 10/10
I'm still glowing... Its definately "freakin' sweet"(tm).

If I were you, I would'nt go with the LiPo packs that unitedrc sells. They use Apogee cells, which only support a puny 10c discharge rate. Kokam cells, on the other hand, support up to 20c and are usually both cheaper than their packs and of better quality.
Lithiums are great!

Who would have thought we would be calling a battery that puts out 16 amps of constant current and is smaller than my dick puny... lolpuny 10c discharge rate
Getting kokams to fit in the stock battery holders is an issue. I would like to have two 20-30C kokams in the thing, but they make long cells, which can be an issue in something that used to hold 3AA batteries.
I'm probably getting the unitedrc.com cells simply because they are already complete, and fit propperly in the stock holders. I would definately dig a couple kokams, but until I get all the alloy and titanium parts, ESC, reciever, and servo mounted I won't know exactly how much room I have to work with. I'm going to have to fiddle a little until I figure it all out.
I dig kokam cells, but they aren't cheaper. Plus you have to take the pack appart, resolder new wires so you have only 1 connector instead of having two connectors and an adaptor to put them in parrallel. Even if you could have $10 doing it yourself, the time involved is more suckage than I'm interested in. I'd rather just get a new lipo if the unitedrc lipo starts to loose cell capactiy. I'll be using one of the sweet new cell balancers from b-p-p.com. ($40 w/ free shipping! sweet!)
After you balance, you can simply check the voltage to make sure the pack is cool. No worries of explosion while playing because of the mamba cut-off.
*EDIT* also, kokam packs don't come with balancer connectors either, unlike the unitedrc.com pack.

I wonder if he actually knows how to find out the constant current, and isnt just going with which battery pack has the biggest number followed by a C.
Pimpsmurf: Sounds awesome Smurf be sure to post pics. I've heard opinions all over the board on this mini-inferno. Good to hear from a pimp that it is actually decent.

absolutely awsome man. The front and rear diffs are encased, and the center diff, slipper gears, and pinion gear are all covered with a screw-down clear plastic shield.
when I got it, it was dusty where someone obviously was tearing around some red dirt with it, and all the gears were clean. Although it was only used a few times (no scratches on it anywhere.)
The slipper was insanely tight, and the diffs were not greased, so they anything but smoothe, but it shouldn't be long until we have 3racing BB diffs ready. Many people are thinking we can use the new inferno ST diffs which are sealed, oil filled diffs. Very nice for tuning.

I'm well aware of the differences between the Kokam cells and those manufactured by Apogee. The 1570 mAh pack should be far more than you need for a single Mamba; it can handle peaks of up to 22 amps. (I was assuming that you were using a 1050 mAh pack, which might not have been quite enough.)
Also, the 1570 looks to be a 3s1p pack, so I'm not entirely sure why you'd really need a cell balancer.

So you know what we are all talking about. Even a 3s1p needs a balancer, but this is a 3s2p.
Here he calls 3racing a good pedegree. This is just what I found with a search, but they make great stuff in my experience. I have $200 in thier alloy and titanium on the way right now, so I guess I will be able to tell you in a week or so how much it sucks.
Of course kyosho makes better stuff. I'll probably end up getting kyosho motor mount (lighter than any other), and maybe some other things. I already have the kyosho shocks (at least I think they are kyosho. that is what I was told)
