Anyone have some informed 2 cents to throw in the hat?

I'm wanting to do a 4 cell NMHd-powered evo, and need cells that can handle a Uberdash motor on a SpiderFET board. I'm thinking sanyo, or PN Racing cells. Basically I need high-load capacity cells (Don't know what to call them. Ones that have good capacity at a high drain current of a fast motor)

I'm even considering the 700mah AAA cells from cheapbatterypacks.com, but they sound a little too pumped about 700mah capacity cells. Perhaps other 850-950mah cells offer similer high-drain capacity?

I've looked, but can't seem to find the NM-powered nelly deluxe xmod betty.k built. I can't even remember where it was. ausmicro? *shrug*

I believe there was something in that thread on quality NM cells. I seem to remember he used Sanyo 850s, but I'm not sure.

i think you may be mixing me up with ph2t. but i recommend japanese made nimh as being the cell of choice. try to avoid cheap cells. :-)

japanesse made? So I should just try to find some with crazy characters all over them? I could have sworn it was you. Guess I need to read more. I saw something about a 4cell on ausmicro. I can't tell if that is 4 NM cells, or lithium ions. Time to do some more hunting! :)

Yeah, I'm thinking Aanyo ATM. My LHS doesn't have them in stock, but could probably order them. I'll bet that will be the way to go.

That is unless someone can point me to some bad-ass better than anything cells.

yup, jap cells. just read the fine print.
it's not a guarantee though, panasonics seem to have a short life and i wouldn't buy them again.

from my own experience the good ones are:
jap energizers (750 mah)
atomic cells
sanyo.

crap cells:
panasonic
powertech

as you can see, i haven't really used a large variety of brands so take it for what it's worth :-)

PN AAA I've found quite good and Intellect are up and coming with their AAA they does have a fairly high discharge rate documented but I don't know if they're as consistent as the PN or any of the Japanese cells.

My 1.5 cents.

NiMH cells come in three basic types, standard, high temp, and high current drain or sometimes called fast discharge, the high temp and high current cells usually only come in a commercial (flat top) package such as the Kan 700’s advertised at CBP, and most of the true high current cells are 600 to 650 mAh (often 650 nominal cells are called 700 because it rolls a little sweeter off the tongue), BTW nothings for free if you want a high milliamp per hour (mAh) rating you have to control the discharge rate so we get a choice 900 mAh at one end and unlimited discharge at the other. Except for the other end, you know the cheap stinky one where you get low mAh and crappy discharge since you can have both of those together.

Anyway sometimes hobby suppliers such as Intellect or PN Racing special order the high drain or high temp cells with consumer caps, the only problem is you don’t know exactly what you are actually getting under their pretty labels, and they certainly aren’t telling. Which leads me to the Intellect cells, I have several sets and have done quite a bit of testing and have come to the conclusion that although great I do not think they are true high current cells it seem likely that they would be more accurately described as high temp cells with a good discharge rate which is actually a pretty good choice for their intended purpose, and might explain some of their success at the race track (larger cells success not the AAA’s).

Anyway would you notice the difference between a good quality standard set like the Sanyo’s, a hybrid like the Intellect, or a true fast discharge cell like the Kan’s with an Uberdash in an Xmod, probably not, any good set will do what you need. I do like the Intellects so they would be my choice, especially in the closed Evo battery compartment, the Kan’s from CBP would be fun but you would have to wire them in or modify the battery contacts sine the commercial caps will prevent them from making contact.
