Posi-trac so easy... so SWEET
i just converted my supra to posi-trac, useing a bit of JB weld. its a really straight foward procedure, just take of the back end, undo the four screws holding the wheel assembly, pull the differential off the rear axel. from there open the dif. by undoing the three screws, and seperate the 3 layers, set aside the gearing, and clean out any grease or dirt on the parts. then just just dab a little JB weld on the front and pack of the gears when re-assembling. coat the spyder gears all the way around. tighten the 3 screws back down, and press the backing down on a table, to really push the JB weld into the joints. put the rear axel and back end assembly back together and your good to go. if you use JB kwik, it takes about 15 min to do the whole thing, and for the stuff to set.
This is so sweet for drifting, it gives you amazingly long and controlled sidways motion, and on the plus side, with very tight corners, you can just let off the throttle then go hard on again and it will give you some of the smallest controlled turning radius

i personally dont use the awd, just cuse you loose power, im sure it would work just as well w/AWD but in that case if you wanted actual 4 wheel drive, you would have to JB weld the front and rear diferential. and hard tires would be a must, otherwise they wold wear out way to fast. o and in regards to what TMP saidi actually had more of a problem flipping my car with the limited slip dif, just cuse the tire that wasnt spinning out would catch on hard left turns. that no longer is a problem.

hell no it doesnt increase speed, where would you get an idea like that? it changes ther performance of the handling, giving you a posi rear end, resulting in both rear tires putting power to the ground instead of one. this mod is to change to drifting characteristics. it will not affect top speed or even acceleation, just the handling. on a side note when i take off on a full charge, the ass-end side steps for about 2 secs, which reminds me much so of the launch of a real drag car

since the time i did the posi trac mod, i have found extesive wear on the rear joint cups. this is due to power being put both wheels, while on a very grippy floor, tire wear was a problem too on this surface. i dont mind the tire wear, but ive decided to machine a rear axel out of aluminum, since there is a bunch of short stock left at work, i might make a few stainless steel ones, but i think weight would be an issue.
