ok this started out as a lazy man's effort of getting rid of awd without putting the original parts back in cuz i was at work and bored.

step one. take the top lid thing off the front end. remove at least one side of the front end shit from the chassis so you can get the bevel gear out.

(i tried to run like this and it would work but when i would go into reverse the rear bevel would pop out and jam) so i said damn i gota keep the drive shaft in place so i went and stole my coworker's superglue. i just put a few drops on the chassis hole where the bearing and drive shaft go. the shaft glued in there just barely sticking out so it keeps the rear bevel in place but it doesnt turn with the bevel.

for those of you who do not understand that this cuts down on rotating mass by 1/5th im guessing. meaning the bevel gear turns with 1/5 of the resistance(in a perfect world) and is capable of a higher top speed and less friction and more torque and smoother torque. im not claiming this makes a night and day difference, but it really is effective.

im only runnng 4 cells now but its so nice to drive. it handles like a badass racecar should.

i also relubed the ball differential today. she went through 1 2/3 charges without breaking then i lost a knuckle screw. i have more tho.

heres a pic sorry it sucks so bad

Thats a cool idea! Even though knowing your fondness with JB Weld I expected you to use that instead.

i was at the office no jbweld. i kinda actually glued the shaft in by accident(the goal was to keep the bearing from popping out) but then i realized what i did and it rocks. jbweld could be used on this and probably will if i have to redo it.

some of the best ideas start out as accidents

btw.

it goes like its on rails. and it coasts a lot better so high speed turns are a lot easier to make. the ass end comes loose a lot but its pretty predictable. all in all i say i do have a hobby grade car now. i wasnt sure for a while if it was or if it is just a fancy toy.

I didn't have this problem but i just got the AWD kit yesterday, took awile but i installed it and in true Ratshack style my steering is gone, didn't even touch the servo or tie rod, I'm probably just gonna throw my XMOD away, or sell it here if anyone needs parts. Just a waste of time and money...

I was playin with a similar idea. I never really got it to work perfectly, but I got these little pins from the hardware store that fit in the smaller part of the gear, and used some duct tape on the very end to make it big enough to stick inside the bearing. I never got a chance to drive it, but it seemed like it worked fairly well... lol
