Off Road Xmod?
Anybody think about doing an offroad XMod? I've got a patch of dirt in front of my new place, and I'd really like a Mini-Z monster, but lack the funds. I was kinda thinking some wheels, body mounts, a cool truck body, and a AWD drive kit might make the Xmod into a decent offroader. I'll probably have to buy some beefier parts so it don't keep breaking, but otherwise I think it's feasable.
Anyone got any thoughts about that?

I tried this out a little while ago and it came out all right. I just need to get a little more ground clearance. Another inch or two for sure.

The biggest thing I suggest is getting some drive cups/axle cups that don't crack or break under severe torque. Because after I 6 celled my Xmod with AWD and locked diffs, I ripped apart all the cups from the torque.
I also definaly think you'll need to 6 cell it in order to give it some get up with the larger wheels. When I did mine I didn't have it 6 celled and now I want to make it all over again with larger tires and locked diffs.
Just some thoughts and ideas.

What about a more powerful motor (more powerful motor than the stage 2 top speed motr) to pull the added weight of bigger tires and stronger chassis parts. But a 6 cell mod will work too.
www.Xmodspeed.com had some better motors for sale, just trying to help.

Yeah, I was definately gonna upgrade to the metal stub axles.
Before I go 6-cell, I'm gonna upgrade the FETs, and go with a faster motor. I like to keep it light, and cells are one of the heaviest things on the car.
Well, I'm just day dreaming anyways, I got a few bit projects to catch up on first, but this is something definately in the back of my head, so who knows, maybe six months down the road.

Yeah but it effects handling, you lose speed in corners. Not like I have anybody to race against, but I like to keep that in mind.midget_man1387 wrote:you're right. adding cells does add more weight, but the power added overcomes the weight added, IMO.. anyone else with me?crazydave wrote: Before I go 6-cell, I'm gonna upgrade the FETs, and go with a faster motor. If you can get the same speed without adding weight, your gonna be able to keep more of that speed going through corners. That is particularly important on dirt where there is a lot less traction.

you could try larger tires maybe? like mini-z overland tires. they fit on the mini-z racer wheels fine but i don't know how well they would work with xmod wheels. this would give you some more ground clearance anyway
here is what i did with a mr-02 racer and overland wheels/tires

this runs very well on slightly rougher terrain than a stock mr-02 would
