Xmod, Euro Style

Post by Bird »

Props to sessiz for inspiration on this... he did this a while back. Here's the link to his...

http://bitpimps.lixlink.com/pages/phpFo ... php?t=3227

And here's mine... iWaver Porsche 911 GT3 shell, gunmetal rims, red ano'ed nylocks... Same deal as sessiz had to do... score an RSX length driveshaft and use some squares of velcro to mount it...

Aside from making for a unique Xmod, these shells also tend to be waaaaay lighter, and make it feel like a totally different chassis...
As for the chassis... it's pretty basic for now. Bearings, Stage 2 11 tooth setup, IC3s, heat shrink on the antenna eyelet(done before RS started putting that on 'em), and a red carbon fiber front deck(my payment for 219s Nelly install... Thanks, man)...

This ride is a continuing work in progress, and I am in no hurry to get it done... I have an iWaver Mitsubishi Lancer EVO shell broken down and in the body shop for it that I got from USATorque55, and I will be putting a Nelly and a sick motor in it... in light of recent developments in the lab of the genius fet guru, ph2t, I think I'll be holding out for the 1.3 version of Woah Nelly... I am also holding out for the release of the iWaver 02s for my planned pcb swap... I would really like to keep brakes. I will also be getting the matching red carbon fiber rear deck to go with the front one I already have, as well as select GPM alloy parts for both durability and redistibution of weight... Oh, I want a CF driveshaft, too lol. I will also be replacing the stock 4 cell nimh setup with a 2 cell lith-ion setup. I plan on doing just about every known steering mod as well. Like I said... No hurry.

EDIT... Fixed it! Thanks, Cabo! :-D

man that is purdy.
nice and low... the partner to sessiz's sled.

I just got one question/request...
can you pimps who have a gallery here a bitPimps start using them to host your images? This way we know the images will show up forever, no more broken image links a few months.

thanks :-)
Dear Life Cereal, Where do you get off? Part of a balanced breakfast and delicious? Who do you think you are? By now you may have guessed I'm speaking ironically and have nothing but good things to say about what you do. Life cereal do not change a thing.

That's real nice, man... I really dig how low you got that body to sit. I bet that drives a lot better with less weight and lower center of gravity. Nice work, Bird.

Thanks, fellas :-)

@sdog... like I said, man... I probably won't have it the way I want it until spring at least... I'm working the "long term" approach on this piece lol

@Cabo... How do I do it, man? I just spent a while messing with the image tags and the urls on the pages with the pics in my gallery... My computer illiterate ass couldn't get it to do anything more than link... How do I do it so the pic shows up in the post? Let me know and when I get time, I will go back and replace all of my photobucket hosted ones with the ones I have in my gallery...

@midget... No mods needed... Just pop the mini z clips out and make sure the wheelbase is right... add velcro... Boom. Done. Oh, wait... the trick with the chassis is to take the xmod rear clip out of the xmod shell and clip it into the chassis... that has the stopper for the passenger side rear arm on it, and allows the chassis to sit proper... ever notice how when you have an xmod body off, that arm sits uneven? That's why. I thought I'd tell everyone that, because when I told hog, he said he never knew... I just assumed that since no one ever said anything about it, it was common knowledge.

@hue... Yep. There is much less high-centered weight with these shells on an xmod... It is almost like running with no body at all... I have a theory that all of the other stuff that I have planned that I listed in the first post will bring the CG even lower and towards the center of the chassis, and end up being close to the same weight, if not lighter, than a stock xmod in the end. 219 has enough stock xmods that when I get done with this, I will do a weight comparison to back that theory up... I'm positive that it will handle great, even better than it does now, which is much better than stock... And with the steering mods I will be doing, it should be able to turn sharp enough to run an RCP track... I am optimistic that it will be a true bad ass(read: capable of being actual competition for Mini Zs) when I get done.

Plus, it will probably fulfill my dream of building a micro that is capable of smoking the dude up the streets' 1/10th scale shit :-)

I started out with a long wheelbase chassis, betty... I had to RSU order the shorter shaft to do this...

If you already have a short driveshaft, you're set.

EDIT... betty... I just saw your RSX... You're set, dude.

Nice rig birdman! I was considering the Iwaver bodies, but wasn't sure. I think you just fucking convinced me. Although I'm having probs changing my address with Toyeast, I should be getting one soon. I like the lowered look a lot. Now that I don't have my Focus body, I am looking for something different to top off my mod.

Don't get the bodies, buy the palmrunner clones. I believe they are only a buck or two more, plus you get another RC to screw around with.

That was a great idea before TE jacked up the price on those... the fuckers... HEY, STEVE... CHROME WAS KIDDING... WE DIDN'T WANT ANY OF THOSE... fucker.

OK on to the legit post lom... Here's a current shot of my xmod chassis, showing the red CF deck that I gotta get the matching rear to, and the blingy 5 stars and brake discs from the new wheel set... it is also sporting the first set of tires I finally decided to bust out of the tire set(I beat the shit out of the stock tires for months on those other rims even though I had the tire set from the get-go lop...) Ironically, I have the "suspension upgrade" but prefer to use the stock dampers with the upgrade springs... medium front, hard rear... I also have the awd shit, but haven't used it much other than droppin' the lsd in it a few times(still don't get why hog likes that diff so much... for some odd reason, I prefer the planetary)...

Anyways... all the future plans shit mentioned in my earlier posts is still on... and I can't wait to start taking it to the next level... but here it is for now...
