I swear, these RS bearings suck. I scored a 2nd hand xmod recently and have started the (long and tedious as I have found) process of stripping it down, cleaning and rebuilding.

These bloody bearings being open and unsealed are a croc of shit. I had one just fall apart on me yesterday and all the little balls rolled off into oblivion. bugger!

So I've now gone and bought some VXD wide track bearings off ebay. They look pretty spanky but I dunno if I've been ripped cause betty told me like 10 minutes after I've bought them that you can use miniz bearings in the xmod. We'll the rear axle bearings at the least anyways. And we know how cheap those are these days.....

What you experiences pimps? Ya gonna be gettin 20 q's from me over the comming weeks about this shit-of-a-brick on wheels.....

i've found that mr01/2 rear bb's are the same size as xmod ones only they're about .5mm wider. but you only get 3 in a set so i think it would be way too expensive to buy 5 mini z bb sets.

I've yet to have probs with mine, but I imagine it's only a matter of time. I drive my car pretty regularly. It ran slower when I origionally put them in, now it runs pretty well

well i aint had any problems with them. but i dont think they really improved over the bushings all that much.

I prefer unsealed bearings, less rolling resistance, and easier to clean, and yes you do need to clean sealed bearings, if the fine clay sand we have here works it's way in, it's almost impossible to get out.

...but aside from that, I have no doubt RS does use inferior materials.

You thought breaking down the Xmod was tedious? I guess compared to a Mini-Z maybe, but I found it about on par with my 1/10th scale cars I had, I thought, maybe a couple extra screws to get to things, but for the most part it comes right apart. I was thinking how cool the modular design was when I was breaking down mine.

I recently refurbished a Xmod I got from Hue, he had only run it it indoors so it cleaned up well.

I spent a day with it, just because I was painting stuff, and experimenting and breaking stuff, but it came together pretty fast.

I haven't had any problems with the ones I have on my old Xmods. I just NEVER use any wet lubricant on them. Coming from the 1:10 scale racing first thing I did to a new set was clean them and make sure there was no oil left on them then the got a bath in powdered graphite.

Got me a Set of the standard VXD on order of my latest Xmod. Before I left RS I ordered me a Corvette with Full body kit. :-D

really? going from bushings to bearings should always show a huge improvement. This is really weired...... I guess the "high loss" drivetrain of an AWD xmod leaves a lot to be desired.

Has anyone used the VXD bearings yet?

actually merc/sg, I bought this off some kid over at my retard car collection.... $40USD for the skyline kit, AWD, bearings, spare rims and other assorted parts......

Haven’t had any trouble with the Xmod or VXB bearings yet. I would definitely buy the VXB’s over the Radio Shack bearings.

I like the design of the Xmods once you get the hang of it you can take them apart and put them back together fairly quickly, however the stock wires are prone to breaking, and if everything isn’t lined up just right they tend to have steering problems especially when installing the 4WD kit and bearings. LoL If I had put my second car together first I’d have thought they were crap and given up on them, but I had accidentally got everything working just right on the first so I had a shining example of what they could be and knew there had to be something wrong with the second.

The xmod bearings juuuust fit the 3mm minimum i.d., and damn if it won't come in handy for everything else, too...

I haven't had any problems with mine, but I know that there has got to be some nasty grime in there, from some of the situations I've driven in... hell, I bet there's still a bunch of crap from the McDonalds lot over by hogs crib from a few months ago(it was kinda moist out and my ride was a mess when I got home).

Ya know it might work. At first glance I saw that instant bearing turn off word “WD-40” and started to file it away as junk, but I looked anyway and thought ok maybe.

Just a bearing recommendation from a former speed skater, petroleum products and precision bearings don’t mix, especially those with detergents like WD-40. For RC car bearings dry lubricants are good, silicone or teflon products can be ok just as long as you don’t leave anything more than a ultra thin layer on when your done. Wet oily gooey lubricants collect dust and dirt that acts like sandpaper and destroys that nice wonderfully polished ultra smooth finish on the inside of your bearings.
