rear gear diff in AWD?

Has anyone put in the original gear'ed diff instead of the ball dif for the rear setup in an AWD chassis?

I've been stuffing with the ball diff and trying to find the right amount of slip. It's tricky, the 3 screws on the diff assembly don't have much movement for a small adjustment. It's not much between tight as and loose as so it's sucky trying to get it right....

Gotta say though, awd rocks! it's what makes this car. got the thing slipping all over the place on the hardwood floor at home. it's fun weaving in and out of piano stool legs, coffee table legs, dinning tables n shit

Strong bastard too! I've hit a few solid wall/legs head on and the chassis is still cool. I would of busted my first servo gear set by now if this was an mr01.

I know I'm prolly stating what's already been said but I'm a johnnie come lately to this chassis so fuck off, haha.... 8-)

the ball diff is a total let down for me, it just doesn't work like it should. as a result i run gear diffs front and rear. only drawback is you break rear cups more often.

The ball diff seems to be designed for too much slip. Since the rear end is driving the car, the front end just needs to help pull a little bit. I think the idea is so the rear end can override the front if it needs to, kind of a front/rear differential effect.

All I know is the car Hue sent me had a brand new ball diff in the front, and a older one in the back, the brand new one is set up perfect, with just a tiny bit of slip, the rear one had way to much slip, and if I tightened it, it would feel like it was grinding the balls on the rings, and the wheels would not spin opposing directions. I pulled it apart cleaned it real good but still no good, so I ditched it and put the planetary back in. I think maybe when the rings get worn, they're junk.
