Under-glow color???
The gum machines flash blue/red. blue headlights, the hood opens and it has one of my front deck turbo’s with blue LEDs, just unsure what color to use for the EL wire underglow.

can you get purple? i've used uv led's before but they don't really light up the ground. shame as it looks cool.

Purple underglow looked good with the black body but not quite right with the flashing red and blue, so I ended up going basic blue, doubling up the wire to make it a little brighter.


This project is rapidly getting out of hand, first I was just going to put a basic set of lithium-ions in it but the skyline body is a little too narrow for an easy fit, I then considered and rejected aaa sized lithiums and settled on four 3.4 volt 700 mAh lithium-poly cells that purportedly will support 7 amps continuous current drain. A few months ago I built a Li-poly car for a friend using cells he provided, unfortunately although he liked it I didn’t, this time I chose the cells. If I can find a sufficiently small high current switch you will be able to select either 7.4 volts 1,400 mAh, or 14.8 volts, 700 mAh without out even removing the body. The batteries are already in the mail and should be here by W day unfortunately I will definitely need aluminum cup joints and although I have had some on order for some time now I have no idea when the GPM order will get here.

Doing a little more work on the decals, things are starting come together. Still not sure what I'll use for the final motor, because of the voltage select switch it will need to cruse at 7.4v but not burn up at 14.8v. Am also having trouble deciding on which hood to use, one minute I like the black and think the body kit hood looks like crap, the next the body kit looks right. I might try painting the body kit hood gloss black.

have you thought about the team orion micro elite? or somthing like that name.

I’ve been experimenting with a 180 that is similar to the Micro Elite but the Orion motor I’ve been thinking of trying is the coreless Micro Elite Modified. It would take custom mounting, and a modified gear set but the results might be worth the effort.

Successes
The switch works and the two 7.4 volt 700 mAh battery packs fit with no spreading of the body. I can now switch easily between 7.4 and 14.8 volt operation without even removing the body. The low dropout 5 volt regulator on the front deck turbo is handling the 14.8 volts and insuring that a steady 5 volts is being delivered to the Xmod circuit board for steering and lights.

Minor Setbacks.
First problem.
Exploding plastic cup joints. Cured by temporarily borrowing the aluminum GPM parts from my mustang until it gets its own.

Second problem.
Way too much power for Superglued Xmod tires. At 72 km/h, 44 mph, on the speed checker both tires came partially unglued at the same time and caught stopping the motor, which was too much for the one of the FETs. If just one had come all the way off it might not have been a problem but since both were still connected to the wheels the drive train and consequently the motor froze if only for a second but with the massive current delivered by the HP cells that was enough. Being fixed by shaving down the center ridge and using hard rubber Mini-Z tires with an adhesive that advertises itself to be 4 times stronger than CA.

Currently waiting on the arrival of more FETs to repair the damage to the front deck turbo. Funny thing is that it still runs it just has 4 FETs on one stack and one on the other.
