Xmod Technical Problem - Batteries overheating

When in doubt, ask the pimps.
I've got an Xmod that, on the test bench, runs fine(forward, reverse, turning, etc...), but over the course of about 30 seconds the batteries (running normal alkalines) get extremely hot, to the point that I take them out to prevent them from popping.
I figure that there is some sort of short causing the problem. Anyone run into this before or have some suggestions on how to track the culprit?
Thanks!

I never ran alkalines in an xmod, so I can only speculate...
But even stock, they suck a lot of juice out of batteries quickly...
Do nimhs get hot like that in there too?

Same as what Bird said....
I've never put alkalines in mine either.
It's probably just the alkalines getting drained quickly.
Try some Nimhs in there and see how it runs.

I agree. Give the NiMH's a shot. You don't get those annoying "alkaline" power spikes. I would also check the wiring to make sure nothing is wrong.

this is usually caused by a short.. check the wiring of the batterys..
the red wire coming from electronics goes to the top of the driver side terminal while the black one goes to the top of the passanger side terminal.. and the black wire crosses the bottom ones..

Yes, there could be a short somewhere, but I don't think he would have been able to run the car at all if there was. Especially the way they short out from when antenna touchs anything power related.
But, hey. Check everything under the hood.

i ran alkalines in my i waver when i first got it and experienced the same thing. alkalines have more internal resistance than nimh and can only deliver a small amount of current as a result.
my nimh still warm up but nowhere near as bad as alkalines.

i think what he said was a little worst than that normal thing..
