Xmod range increase mod

Post by 91LudeSiT »

I found, through the help of Jshwaa From xmodrc, and my testing a way to really increase your xmods range, this helps greatly for fast cars or large tracks. The mod is real simple, just change the R20 resistor in the controller pictured below(right above the crystal), to a 2.2ohms 1/8th watt, and bam, my car went from aroun 25-30ft range to 100+ft range.

Do you have a link to the thread with the info and discussion? :???:

I'd love to try this. I have a ton of Xmod controllers to test it on.

there wasnt much discusion, jshwaa said to me that replacing the R20, resistor with a 2.2ohms should in theory boost the power to the antenna by about 400%, so I then tried it an it worked

I'm actually, not into the whole theory idea. You've tried this personally then. OK. Has anyone else tried this or discussed this?

Like I said, Do you have a link to the thread?

I don't see why it wouldn't work it's like the old way of modding a mobile CB by changing the finals resisters.

It does sound like a reasonable mod.

It's good to hear from you again CJ. You've been sorta quiet. :-)

Tested today against a stock controller outside beneath powerlines, stock went about 40 feet, modded went about 140 feet.

Sounds worthy.

Can you put up a pic of the board on the modded controller?

Does RS sell the part needed to do this? If so, do you have the product/item #?

i like how other sites try to protect their member numbers by auto blocking other boards names from posts.

here we just tell you to fuck off and hope you leave.

maybe it's because if you search GOOGLE with <fry's> the FIRST FIVE links are to fry's electronics. the second link is a site locator.

typing www.google.com and fry's and hitting enter both times is shorter than your post, pimptothemax.

This mod definitly works, I've done it to my controller and for a friend. it easily doubles(or more) its effective range.

If you have a hot motor and have worked the steering for full swing and straightness, the additional range makes the xmod controller somewhat enjoyable.
