Xmod FETs?

I'm looking to upgrade the Xmod FETs. I gathered at TRC that the IRF7389 are a direct swap, but the pic of them in the car is missing. I'd really like to see a pic of them in the car, before I go swapping my FETs.

Anybody here got a pic of a XMod PCB with upgraded FETs?

i dunno about those ones, but i just got some from brucemicro that are a direct swap. and they're on special, shipping should be pretty reasonable.

edit: the IRF7389 are listed in that page as other fet replacements, so they should be fine.

IRF7389
Si4562
IRF7317 (bruce)

are all good mosfets, 4562/7317 are better performance wise by a small margin.

a direct swap is easy and requires no heatsink cutting

a 2 high stack (ie: 2x2) would require the heatsink to be cut out due to clearance issues.

Ausmicro has an external board for $25 (bare version) that is rumored to be the nelly 1.0. $3.50 shipping IIRC. I'm getting two! ;)

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your an idiot.

ph2t hangs his hat here and Ausmicro. Oh and incase you didn't know, ph2t is the creator of the woahnelly.

But hey, thanks for offering up the info buddy :-(

WoahNelly is ph2t

"Spider" is ausmicro.com (Me)

They are two different devices that work in the same way (hell there's only one way to do a external FET replacement and that is whack a set of FETs on a board linked to where the stockers were).

"Spider" falls below Nelly 1.3 and Nelly Deluxe in performance but would probably equate to Nelly 1.1/1.2 sort of deal.

ausmicro.com is staying 4-cell for our Spider development and while we have a few more generations in line our main interest is reduction in size, while maintaining the same performance level.

So as far as I'm concerned if you want to all out LiPo or more than 4 cell you should be thinking Nelly. If you want a great solution for a 4-cell then a Spider should be on your list of considerations.

But just to be 100% clear, although ausmicro.com and WoahNelly are working together on the EVO XMods FET swaps we definately aren't the same entity and our products are different.

I found the IRF7210 mosfets on digikey. They're listed at .02 ohms. They're the lowest resistance mosfets I've found. The infamous IRF7317 only go down to .062 resistance.

Sorry if this is old/bad news or something.

These would work right???????

Nah dude... The IRF7210 is a dual P? (going off fuzzy memory) MOSFET while the URF7317 (SI4562DY etc etc) is a Dual N+P..... That is one of each kind in the package...

Sorry, I'm an idiot. What's that mean? :???:

You've got them listed at your shop as an alternate fet.
http://shop.ausmicro.net/product_info.p ... ucts_id=31

EDIT I just looked up the data sheets on each. Now I'm starting to get it. The 7317 has a negative and positive channel while the 7210 has a positive channel (looked at the diagram. Don't know if it's dual, but it has all 8 pins working on one positive gate, in leu of 2 sets of 4 pins on 2 gates).

So basically, these couldn't operate where the stock Xmod fets are because they need to be dual N & P channel fets.?! Could they be made to work, like with the single cell fet mod for bits? Could the pins be repolarized?

well in layman's terms;

you know how there's 4 fets needed for a bit right?
and there's 2 for the xmods, minizs, iwavers?

well the xmod/etc fets have 2 fets inside each little package.

(someone correct me if i'm wrong)
in all the non evo 1:28's the little package has an n and a p channel fet inside it.

but with evo fets one package has 2 n chan's and the other package has the 2 p chan's.

is that what you meant?

Thanx Betty. I just edited my post above.

The dual n&p work off of two seperate gates inside the package right?
So, the dual p would have two seperate gates too right (guessing)?
On the 7210, it looks like there is only one gate.
Like so

It's a PDF sheet. Not sure if it will work here.

Now I'm trying to figure out if I could use this on an EVO Xmod, or for that matter, any other 1:28 car.
