I finally got an Xmod (thanks to the $35.00 coupon in Da Hook Up).

But I've been thinking what to do first.

I've seen on eBay something called a wide track mod, which looks like adding washers to me. It's is supposed to remove the slop in the wheels. There was even some bearings that were listed as doing the same thing as the mod without the washers.

I was wondering if I should get the regular bearings and just use washers (I think I still have some small ones from my slot car days.) or the set with sealed wide track bearings. Also if anyone knows if the wide track mod is needed when I finally upgrade to AWD.

I want to get the bearings and real wheel lock nuts but don't want to waste the cash on something that I may not use when the AWD kit is installed.

I'm leaning to the regular bearings and washers at this time.

The widetrack bearings are not necessary at all, but do improve precision.
Atomicmods.com sells widetrack bearings for $9.95 and wheel shims(ultra thin washer) for $2.95. The shims are suppose to keep the wheels off of the non-rotating face of the bearings.

As far as $2.95+S&H for washers. Thats just freakin' retarded. Get your ass down to Lowe's or HomeDepot and grab a handful for under a buck.

Hmmm...the only washers i find at my local hardware stores are about five times as thick as the shims...maybe your store just has the right kind.

I don't normaly like shopping ebay, first experience was a bad one.

Try your LHS. They should have washers and shims for other types of RC's that you can use.

Be creative and look around. Not everything can be handed to you.

Plus, it's your $$$. I really don't care where you buy your stuff.

The nearest hobby store is about an hour away(in San Antonio); but i have tried to use some crush washers from NAPA, about .5mm thick and just requires a little bit of bending to make nice and flat.

the special wide bb's are the same size as the rear bb's in mr01/02's. i made up my own set using the xmod bb's and z rears i had spare. it does make everything smoother but washers and stock bb's are fine.

you don't need metal washers either, i make my own outta scrap plastic using a leather punch.

I'll probably go eBay for the bearings shims and lock nuts. I'll see if I can get them all from one person and save on S&H.

Has anybody tried the Viper body on an Xmod? I keep seeing one on eBay, the Audi looked cool to. I'm a NASCAR fan so a Charger or a Ram would be nice.

Damn Betty, I never thought about doing that. I made shims for models out of wood and plastic before using an exacto blade, but your way is way better.

there we go. The first mod you should focus on is hinging your hood, because it's the easiest. Just have some epoxy or Krazy glue around. What kind of Mod did you get?

I took the image the day I brought it home.

I'm not planning on major mods (like tight turn or range) until the warranty period expires.

I bought it for running in the house after cats and a little in the driveway. I don't think anyone else near me has one to race. But I'm hoping I might get my neighbor to get one when he sees mine. But then again he flies RC planes.

I'm not even planing on painting it until it gets scratched up some.

I will do bearings soon and eventually suspension and AWD in the near future as money allows.

Does the bearings and lock nuts for a Mini Z fit, I think I'm going to get to Hobbytown this weekend near my in-laws to pick up stuff for my Warhammer and Lord of the Rings armies. They have a lot of RC stuff in that store. My Xmod is going with me to the in-laws to chase a couple of cats they have that deserve it.

lock nuts fit fine , but bearings are different story. they fit, but you need more for xmod. if I'm not mistaken, 14. AWD is the shit, give it a try.

I thought you only needed 14 if you are using AWD. I was planning on getting the 14 and shims anyway. Personally I would like sealed ball bearings and not the open ones but I'll take what I can get.
