Maxxa Designs WRX

Post by Maxximum Attack »

This will soon be my MAXXA Designs WRX.
Here are some before pics, nothing to scream about.

Mods:
Shimmed blue motor/white bevel
AWD
Wide/RS bearings
Bent tierod,
steering slop removed with Bic pen ink tube (makes tierod wider, tighter turns)
Hard springs all round

The blue motor/white bevel combo is great, torque seems to be just as good as with the white motor. I'll let you guys know about speed after our Xmas day race meet (Pics and videos of the meet will come).
Some pics now :)

I really messed up the grill  I now officially HATE sharpie. Sharpie on white doesn't fly. :o

Oh shit, I forgot to put on the prodrive sticker. Typing this made me remember :(.

Hope you guys like it.
Some little things went wrong, but hey :-? it's gotta get scratched anyway. Half an hour after these pictures, my brother rolled it.

I made a post later down with my thoughts and a short performance report.

Now that looks real good, like I've seen it in an import magazine somewhere. Can't wait to see the MAXXA version; your RSX was farkin' awesome.

Now just dont let it end up like my X-mods.

I am very convinced that this Gen1 is the best of the lot. Aside from the stronger cup joint, the body is very light, like the EVOs and it feels more solid than the other Gen1s. I'm loving it.

She's getting prepped for paint right now, so she can't come to the phone :-o

sweet car maxx... did you shim the wheels out? they seem to protrude just a little bit from the fenders... not quite my style but something i haven't noticed on any other wrx's.

It's most likely the drift kit wheels. They have a different offset than the standard wheels.

UPDATE

I rolled her out today with some tape on the wheels.

Here's the current setup:
  • Shimmed blue motor/white bevel
    AWD
    Wide/RS bearings
    Bent tierod,
steering slop removed with Bic pen ink tube (makes tierod wider, tighter turns)
    Hard springs all round
    Stage 2 motor advanced
    Neo magnets
    Rear LSD (tight)
Drifting:
Drifting is really hard, but this is my drifter. I think I have to loosen my rear diff. The shimmed 11T / white bevel combo gives alot of torque while keeping the top speed about the same, this is by far the best motor/bevel setup. Combine this with the neo magnets and you have instant driftability.

I now have to loosen my rear diff so that I would have less oversteer with the tape setup.

Speed:
With my rims swapped out for the stock rims and hard threaded tires, the speed increase from the motor advancement is very noticable. I may have to tweek the rear suspension because it's hopping sometimes in the hairpin turns. That may be driver error cuz when i let off the gas just before I turn, I make the hairpin really tight and the neo mags help boost the car outta there.

I'm going to try to make a track when town opens again from Xmas holidays (Wednesday). It's going to have a 40ft back straight, anything less is just too smal for the speed me and my buddy are getting. Nowhere close to li-ions but I like it none the less. Kinda making me regret buying a 2nd hand EVO on Thursday (The MO is on it's way).

That's enough for now,
Maxx

Nice paint job Maxx.....Instead of sharpies, you should try detail pens with india ink. They allow you to do even the smallest of details and even stays on when you clear over everything. :-o

you can sometimes get away with a marker, i find dabbing it on works best.
one thing to avoid with markers is applying clear coats without testing first. sometimes the clearcoat will make the marker run like a hookers face after a good cry!
avoid "gundam" markers for that very reason.

EDIT:
fuck man, i only just saw the edited post above with the newly painted bod!!
that's a really killer scheme, if you described it to me i'd think it wouldn't work. but seeing it is another thing!

really unique bod, awesome job! :-o :-o

Sometimes? I disagree. More than likely the marker will run. Markers go on top the clear coat. ;)

Nice job there, Maxx. I dig the colors, but I would have like to see just a tiny dab of gold on the body to offset the wheels. Maybe a thin pinstrip or something.
...crazy man, crazy...dig it.

Thanks dave. I didn't want to risk the pinstripe using masking tape. But I was thinking the same thing. The red is translucent with a gold base and I was hoping the gold would have shown through more. After some runs tho, I now have "gold confetti" all over the hood and roof lol. If I had a gold pen, there would have definately been a gold pinstripe :-o

Props to you guys that drift these things, it's really hard :(.
I'm going to put the drift kit on the front and see if I can induce some understeer to offset the oversteer. I really don't feel like troubling my diff.

Thanx for all the comments guys, I really enjoy this body now. I'm thinking of getting another stock one to be my shelf queen.
