Is it worth it?/How much work? - Project Titan

Post by Smoke&Mirrors »

So I saw this video as I'm sure most of you have, and was really impressed with it. As far as I have read in the comments the only thing done to it was the 4WD upgrade kit, custom tire kit, and a 41:1 reduction motor. Here is the video.

Now I just got into building ZZMT Crawlers and love it. I'd love to make one of these too since I think it will be pretty cheap. I can go to a Radioshack about 20 minutes from my house and get the same Nissan Titan for $15 as seen here. I can get the 4WD kit, suspension kit(reallly for the springs for my ZZMT flex control, but can be used on the truck), and the custom wheel rc kitfor a dollar a piece at my local Radioshack. So for under $20 I can get a 4WD Titan with custom wheels (or disc brakes) and stiffer suspension.

So my question is, how much work will it be to make it similar to the truck in the video and is it possible with what I have available, how can I increase the torque substantially, and is it worth it? Thanks so much for your help guys!

There have been some impressive xmods crawlers but they are like any other RC. The more time and money you put into them the better they work. That truck in the video looked pretty close to stock, I'm wondering how they did the gear reduction. One of the best things I've seen for these is swapping the drive motor for a servo motor...google: xmods, crawler, servo motor conversion...You should be able to find some helpful info.

Here's a basic build-up on the atomic mods site, its not the most over the top build I've seen. Just a nice little common sense build. http://www.atomicmods.com/Categories/Ar ... awler.aspx

BTW: If you can still find the trucks for $15 buy a couple and hold on to them for a while...they should seel for a good profit on ebay in a year or so. Unless they introduce new trucks in the future...I guess its a crap shoot.

Yeah, I personally just love rock crawlers and miniatures. I have a real cralwer in my driveway and love the idea of having a mini one to play with in my back yard when I'm not playing with the big one.

I just don't think I can afford to put all that money in to upgrade everything to aluminum as described in the tutorial. I'll just have to do what I can, maybe find a motor, and replace things as they break. If you have any other tips, by all means, keep them coming please.

Does anyone know about the "Xmod Evo Truck Torque Mod" on here. How much torque does it really yield? Does it make the truck CRAWL? So many questions I have, and so few answers I offer. Sorry. Also, talk like Yoda I am? Must be too late for me.

No problem, ask all you want...that's the cool thing about this board, usualy someone knows the answers and hardly ever do any of the guys get an attitude (about mods...politics, well that's another matter...)

A ggo start would be to do a servo motor mod. I thought we had a tutorial here but I can't find it so... http://www.xmodsource.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11590

This isn't the easiest mod but its worth it if you think you can do it. The servo doesn't cost much, I got one on ebay for $6 (plus $3 shipping) a while back.

While I was over at the other board I found this:
