bought me an iwaver 02m

so i've been going to the local 1:28 track and taking my girlfriend's 9yo boy with me. he seems pretty happy just watching but i know he's dying to have a go himself.
the shop is fully stocked with the new iwavers and hopups so i lashed out and he picked one with the saleen body.
i also bought a set of bb's, ball diff, cf top plate and the owner threw in a full set of 10deg atomic tyres. the wheels were a bit wobbly so i ditched them and used a set of kyosho rims from an autoscale body set.

all the parts went on without a hitch, the ball diff (which fits mr02's as well) is silky smooth. the stock gear diff was actually pretty damn good, way better than prevous iw gear diffs.

the included radio is 27mhz fm and has a 10 model memory, channel reverse, end point adjustment, abs (which does nothing), exponential (for steering, forward and reverse), steering and throttle trims but no dual rate.

the pcb uses a plug for the motor and there's a plug for lights. one cool feature is it takes a standard 3 pin servo and has an effective servo saver!
it also has decent fets installed which will easily handle a 35 turn motor like a pn racing s04 or an atomic stock modified motor.

in use it's got enough speed to keep you happy and the steering is rock solid, none of that jittery crap of iwavers past. steering is a little slow but fast enough and you can always buy a faster servo if you want more.

all up i paid AUD$170 (around US$120) and the whole package is money well spent considering you'd probably spend more than that on a stock mini z.

i'll let you know how it goes on the track.

How long has this been goin on?

The IW looks good. I haven't raced my MR02 for quite some time now. Almost a year and a half. Used to race it on the beach 4-5 nights a week. I really miss that fucker and it's just too quick to drive in the house...

My neighbor has been scoping it hard tho, so we'll see if I can convert his colombian ass over...

Have fun betty and enjoy it to it's fullest. If I had a place to race minis (favorite scale to race for me) 15 min away, I'd be a stress free camper. :-o

silla :D

i took it down to the track for a spin today, it handles really well.

my only gripes are the slow servo (compared to a mini z) but you get used to it and there's a small delay in the throttle.
otherwise it was lotsa fun. fast enough for fun with the 6t pinion (smallest).

i found out the abs function actually does something, it gives a short pulse backwards when you hit reverse but you lose reverse.

Kind of like anti-lock brakes?

Nice score. Good to hear iwavers have improved. Steering on my 04 blows chunks :hurl: .

more like crappy lock brakes! :-D i guess i'm spoiled with an mr02 and futaba 3pk.

the new iwavers are much better quality. the last iwaver i bought was one of the mr02 clones, the plastic was a bit brittle, crappy molding and sketchy electronics. apart from the wonky wheels this new one sits between xmods and miniz's quality wise.

Roller derby? :???: maybe you could get the owner of the practice track to let you and a couple of others to use it for the 1/28th scales...you'd have you're own tiny super speedway.

yeah, it's tempting to take the rc's down to the roller rink and burn on all that smooth painted concrete!

so the little feller had his first full race day at the track and as he put it he was a "crash magnet"! the first victim was one of the rear wheels, broken off at the hub. so i bought a set of iwaver alloy rear rims. they're great quality and spin dead straight.

the only other problem all the crashes caused was the rear motor pod popping out due to the flexy plastic chassis. so i bought the upgrade carbon fibre one. it's pretty thick for this scale rc (2mm) so there is practically no rear suspension travel. but on the smooth track that's not a big problem.

i decided the stock servo was too slow too, it took too long to recenter and would cause you to do a lot of over correcting. so i upgraded to a hitec hs-50. now the steering is much faster, good as a miniz.

Man that is bad ass! I have the bug to get back into smaller scales now. I wish I knew someplace around hear that raced them

Congrats.

Edit, I didn't want to start another thread, and sorry for high jacking your thread betty, but where is some good resources online for iwaver/mini-z stuff?

Thanks,
Shaun

i've been outta the game for a while so i'd still go back to rcmart for z stuff.
the track near me stocks iwaver stuff so i've been buying there. otherwise toyeast probably still sells iw goods.

Thank you very much! I had forgotten the name of ToyEast, and couldn't find it anywhere, I've been out of this part of the hobby for a while, my main focus has been rock crawling.

ToyEast also redid their website since I visited there last. Its alot more efficient than the old one.

Thank you,
Shaun
