it's *official*, the plasma dash smokes the NML v2...
this setup smokes the nml

On minizracer, Phredd confirmed that this motor is BETTER than the NML v2.

to quote phredd:
. I charged up my batts and ran my hottest motor first NMLV.2. It ran 53-54 km/h and finished with a 54 km/h. I changed out the NML with the Plasma setup and hit 56-57 Km/h and finished with 57km/h. I think this motor is gettting faster every time I run it. As far as torque, it seems like it has as much torque as my NML motor but I have only ran is indoors tonight. I will give it a full test Thursday at the tennis courts.
and
tested the motor on the courts running the ferrite mags and it had as much torque as any x-speed or the pns04 motors. i didnt see a need to change out to the neo mags since it put the other motors to shame with the ferrites installed. I have enough parts to build another motor and Im gonna put the neos in it. I am planning to re-up on more parts so I can keep a few of these motors in stock.
Its the best I have tested.
and bingo was his name' mo.

Awesome...
Hey... in that thread on xmodworld, Jshwaa was saying that a 2 cell li-ion setup was heating up and crapping out due to the high current draw of whatever PD armature/neo magnet combo he was running... sooo... should I just stick with nimhs? I have been planning from the get-go to set up a bb can/PD armature motor for my xmod project once I have most of the other stuff, and was planning on getting these:
http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?P ... ProdID=989
Well, those, some good 18ga wire, some Deans plugs, and one of those li-ion chargers like Atomic mods sells(but not from him... from the place that isn't price gouging lol...)
But I know that that Jshwaa dude doesn't BS... So, would it make more sense for me to just stick with nimhs and set it up to be able to convert easily between 4 and 6 cells?

for the moment, yeah.
stay nimh's.
li-ions have the issue where (under high current load) they heat up and their internal resistance increases, this limits their current output, or to say "punch", lol...
li-poly though, doesn't suffer this trait, they will get warm/hot (possibly explode! gasp!), but never loose their punch.
you'll find a good set of 600-800mah nimh's, that motor and you know what makes for a great ride, lol.... seriously, you just don't need to go 6 cell, xmods & z's are pretty fast once tweaked, escpecially z's.....
I just bought a set of AAA 650mah KAN cells, next to japanese cells they're meant to be the shizzle..
cheers bro,
ph2t.

hey arch, yes you can use the plasma ammy in the squat bb can BUT. and it's a big BUT I'm sorry. The plasma commutator is extra fatty and will have issues with the brushes from a closed can type motor housing (squat, 3racing, yeah racing cans, etc....). This is due to the fact that the brushes aren't desigened for a fat comm. Open cans' like the ATOMIC linked at the begining of the post are designed for the fatter comms.
I would suggest you put the Ultra Dash armatures in the squat cans. I say this because the Ultra Dash has the same amount of turns as the plasma dash. But the ultra has the stock sized commutator. This means no issues with fitting the squat can's brushes.
Make sense? I hope it does......
Going form the video's I've seen of your RCP track, neo's might be the best setup for you. Nice hard arse torque to deliver you around all those tight corners you have .
If you were racing at a bigger track , I'd use the magnets that came with the plasma, excellent ferrite magnets.
cheers,
ph2t.
