CARCAM ph2ty styleZ, yeah yeah biatches!
Introducing CARCAM ph2ty styleZ!
Specs:
-ultra hacked iwaver subbie shell, fully mr02 MM/RM compatible.
-Colour CMOS 1.2GHZ camera with lens.
-11.1V, 80mah lipo supply
-Hardcore/hightech modular charging adaptorz! (aka deans micro plug)
I've been wanting to do something like this for a while. The main issue with running mini wireless cams on small rc's is the power supply. I really wanted to do a DCDC convertor mod but just haven't had the time. The best setup is to be able to run your wireless cam from the car's own batteries. This would reduce the amout of changes to the car's center of gravity, but, alas, the lipo's don't screw it around too much anyway.
The lipo's are ETEC 80mah. I've wired them in series config for 11.1V operation. I've also put on a power switch and a deans micro to isolate the batteries from the camera when charging and also when idle.
It all mounts very snug on the underside of the roof of the iwaver shell.
As you can see, I have easy access to charging the bugger and being able to turn it on/off. Damn I'm good!
There's a fair bit of clearance do so it doesn't infringe on the mr02 chassis.
Say CHEESE punk!
So far it works quite well. Even though the chassis is small as, it visualy handles the bumps pretty well on an outside concrete/bitumen surface.
I've got some video comming soon from a recent (and very wet) templestowe track meet.

the camera PCB requires a solid 9V to run. Well, mine does anyway. You can ge smaller packaged cameras. I got mine out of a "mounted dome" camera. So the pcb was bigger.
to get 9v I needed more than 2 lipos. I tested 2 but it didn't work at all which was a shit. I runs at 11.1V fine but a couple transistors get warm. hasn't blown yet
I used these lipos cause they're the lightest and also what I had on hand.
I think I ran it for about 20 mintues before it needed a charge.
A better design would mount the camera element in situ of the shell, with the windshield knocked out.

on the day we used ph2t's vid cam which has a/v inputs. so we ran the signal from the cam rx into the vid cam and we could watch on the fold out 2 inch monitor.
but when actually filming you wanna watch the car itself. you only need to use a monitor to make sure everything works and is positioned correctly.
it's fun to watch the screen as a spectator, just like the real thing until a 500ft geek comes into view!
