Yeah, it's here in the forum somewhere. I'm not gonna do the legwork for you though. You'll have to locate it yourself. I'll give you a clue though. It will probably be listed under a topic about alloy rims. There's a few here somewhere.

This always bugs me.

Alloy: A homogeneous mixture or solid solution of two or more metals.

Whats the deal, aluminum not good enough for you? If what you want is metal rims, just say 'metal rims' don't go tryin' to sound all cool 'n shit, bustin' out with the 'alloy'.

And if what you really want is actually an alloy, how about specifying what kind you want? There's about an assload or two of different kinds of alloy on the market, and several assloads of custom alloys available.

Common don't make it right. 'Alloy' in the context of rims refers to a light-weight magnesium and aluminum alloy desirable because it is just as strong, but lighter than steel.

I'm guessing magnesium alloy RC equipment is pretty rare.

Since its a reference to a specific kind of metal in the context of custom work, using it implies that the specification for the job requires a specific alloy instead of just something that looks like it might be mag rims.

Just sayin', if'in ya' ask for alloy, don't 'spect to git no aluminum

I can see where you're coming from code, but.........mostly micro R/C is using imitation this, imitation that. For example, the air scoops on the cars. We obviously don't need them, it's just for show. Kinda like the wheels are just for show. They may not be real alloys, but they may be imitating alloys. That's why the name has stuck. I've seen plastic wheels called alloys because they were trying to make them look like real alloys. Works ok in my opinion if you use the right paint and what not.

I'm right on the fence. Totally see code's point, and he's right. But Hachi is right too..

Since alloy is so common in other scales of RC, I guess I never really questioned whether the Scala wheels are aluminum or alloy.

Ya can't really call them scala "wheels" dave cause they don't come with a tire.

How about we put it to a vote?
1. Scala rims.
2. Alloy rims.
3. Mother fuckin fly ass rims for your micro rc or 1/64-1/48 diecast car.
