namuna, i'd just do a little testing first.
your first issue could be flex, if it's not too flexy you should be fine.
second, just make sure jb weld or whatever glue you use actually sticks to the stirer plastic. eg: superglue will not bond with polyethylene co-polymer (a kinda plastic)
i used to be cool

Well, I've gone and done it!

Instead of the coffee straw, I went with the tried and true antenna piece (I raped a cheezy clone for the part, just like ya suggested CD. 8-) )

I did mess up though, on the hollow tube I didn't cut out enough to compensate for the gear stop AND the gap on the motor side. Then, stupidly, instead to taking everything back apart and re-cutting the hollow-tube...I shaved down the gap on the chassis (on the motor side). Man, I learnt my lesson real good there. Without that gap, there's nothing forcing the drive gear to mesh with the axle gear.

So I had to take everything apart anyway, recut the hollow-tube and had to use some super-glue (bought the kind that bonds to plastic) to glue in some spacers to replace the shaved gap.

The other problem was that I specifically bought small hand saw just for this project and the damned thing went MIA (The wife said she put it on my desk, but I suspect she did something else with hit and now I got no clue)...But it was no problem cutting everything with the wire cutters.

All in all, I blew about 3 hours on the project. But when I put it all back together again, man I was HAPPY! Even though it doesn't articulate as fully as some of the pictures I seen for this project...It still goes over WAY MORE shit than it did stock!! :-o

Next up is definitely to add the extra gears to slow this thing down. Even with the stock motor it's too fast to be a crawler. And weighing down the wheels is a must too.

I've already got Samson #2 dismantled (I bought like 5 Samsons) and ready for this mod. This time I won't make the same mistakes AND I have an idea on mounting the shell and still having full articulation.

THANKS for this tut Clit!

Oh, and I'll post up some pics AND vid tomorrow. I can't do it from home because the farckin dog barks up a storm if he sees/hears the R/Cs and that in turn makes the baby start whalin and finally that makes the wife put the beat down on me. :(

My desk at work is full of shit at the moment, so it should make for some prime crawler runnin and I'll take vids.

Designate one corner of a room(or a full room :-o ) keep it really messy with
busted up cars and crap all over the place. Your wife wont even venture near it. If she gives you lip about it, mention her make-up table.*

*sleep on the couch the next few nights.

Dude, at least you get the chance to leave stuff out!

I've been browbeaten and guilted by my woman so much and for so long that even when she's not around I CAN'T leave shit out and about without feeling the impending consequences in my gut and therefore I have no choice but to clean up after myself.

...Okay, that last part was a lie, I still mostly leave crap out. But I DO feel them oncoming browbeat/guilt-trip pangs in my belly though!
