AWD just gives the understeer you need, it could be done easily, Just get some very thin pvc, or even selotape/electrical tape and go for it, and you'd be drifting in no time.
I can just imagine now, i'd have a whole initial D downhill course set up in my room I aint' kidding either

update:
lost a few parts and broke a bunch on its way to north Carolina. but none the less i have made more progress. its hard to get back into the modding mood.
keeping the idea of the Audi body since it fits more than the evo and is wider. pic shows ss motor, se cells, se board(dremeled and elec's on it moved around) iwaver board shaved and crystal mount removed, full size se servo, chopped se servo, blue arrow micro servo, knuckle with axle and tire attached, ball inflater used to make u-joints, pin used in the u-joints, brass rod used to make the axles, and finally the chassis with rear axle and center drive shaft in, the front axle only has half of a u-joint finished(broke in shipping )
close up of axle in the knuckle and the u-joint.
best shot i could get of the u-joint TINY!!
servo propped in there, fits perfectly.
se board sits flush on chassis. iwaver board sits lower in teh front but extends over the motor, both fit well under the body
