i need help with rebuilding a zz rear end the gears fall out

i resently got a zz chassis in a trade , and the rear end wont hold gears , i heard you coulkd rebuild it with jb weld , dose any one have a how to or a pic or 2 of how it done ? the guy said if i try to fix it and cant hell give me a difrent chassis so if i try and mess it up its not to big a deal , thanks for any help your able to give ....matt

Do you mean it won't hold the axle? Cause if your gear is loose, just put some super glue on it.. And if you mean the axle falls out, then yea, JB weld will work...

You'll have to get the JB Weld tips from hogjowlz, but I have a different, similar method that will solve the problem as well. I use epoxy putty (Loctite brand, but there's others). I haven't done JB Weld, but I figured putty would be cleaner than a liquid. The trick with both is to not use a ton of it, just enough to hold the axle in place. Just make sure your axle is seated properly and is meshing well with the idler gear before you apply the putty or JB Weld. Then turn the axle every couple minutes while it's drying. After it's dry, run your motor through a full charge just spinning the wheels. This is to "break in" the new axle mount and get it spinning freely. That's it, you should notice that it will be quieter than other cars and handle just a bit better.

well ive used jbweld and ive used putty. actually the best stuff is jbkwik. its made by jbweld and it hardens in about 10minutes. i like the liquid because it totally seeps in and is easier to remove than the putty if you gota take it out. just put a piece of paper between the gear and the chassis and mix your epoxy and pour the jb into the whole crack. spin the axle a little and pour more in. keep spinning it every minute or so until it hardens. it takes a few days to break in and dont ever use wet lube or you will get a lota fuzz in there.

also jbkwik is almost the same color as the chassis.

Hogs' JB mod is da bomb. You get more life out of an otherwise useless chassis.

its da bomb on a new chassis as well. you get a much smoother ride and more power goes to the wheels. acceleration is also greatly improved.

thanks for the help guys , but the wireing on the chassis is bad to . dont feel like re soldering (they came lose before) all the steering wier and one of the motor wiers , o well on to the junk pile , its ok hes sending me a new chassis any way .

Wait a minute: You do this mod then you can't remove the axel? I swap axels frequently. Some days I just feel like speed, others, torque.

I'd love to see a detail picture of this. I have a ZZ axel held in with a drilled-in music wire clip 'cause it got loose. Still kind of floppy. I hate off-round energy wasters. But its removeable...

I hate the slop so much I've been seriously considering milling in a bronze bushing or getting some http://homefly.com/ ball bearings in there & make axels with a removable wheel.

Here's what I did to repair mine, and still be able to change the gears.

I pulled one wheel off, and inserted the axle in a piece of red sprayer tube from WD40. Replaced the wheel. Then I trimmed the slots in the chassis where the axle snaps in, so the the sprayer tube slips in without squeezing the tube against the axle. I super glued it in place, and at that point it is fixed, but you can't remove the axle. To remove the axle I made 2 cuts lengthwise along the tube, so I could remove a strip down the middle, and that allows the axle to snap in and out.
