i just thought this up maybe you could take a solar powered calculater and use the solar pannl instead of bateries on your zz?

Those suckers are very weak. Gallium Arsenide (calculator) cells are very low current. I would go with a set of 3 (5 for a ZZSE) small Silicon cells-electronicsgoldmine.com has slightly chipped ones very cheap.
As a side note-I would use a BitCharG with the bottom-of-the-line motor and highest gear ratio, as this would be necssary to even pull along the solar cells. Fitting more than 3 would be near impossible, and you'll probbably have to hack the chassis to gain a larger wheelbase anyway.
