MOSFET

Post by JDM-R34 »

Where can You buy Mosfet's or FET's, Do You have to buy them from people who make them or can You buy them at a Hobby Store? Sorry if this has been posted before, I know somebody is selling some in the Fo' Sale section (the biff) but is there anybody in America that can sell them?

Anybody know? Just wondering, because if hobby stores sell them I can just go to the store and get some but otherwise I need to know where to get them?

they are a really expensive type of transistor. the ones used on bits are about the size of a grain of rice so if you cant solder a dual cell i wouldnt bother trying these yet.

Agreed.

With that said, a MOSFET is not the type of thing you'd find at a hobby store, you'd have to order them from an electronics supply, like Mouser or Digikey.

and to add to all that...

since you're in the US, I'd highly recommend procuring crazydave's services to do your FET mods. :-)

So what would be better to have done to a Bit first, a dual cell or FET? or both at the same time?

well dual cells are easier to do. but they ad weight.

fets are harder to do and dont ad weight. both can be done but either is good on its own.

Dual cells give you a drastic speed and power increase, but because of the increased weight, the power increase doesn't seem as drastic as the speed increase. Dual cells will also put more power to the steering.

MOSFETs will give you a drastic gain in power. A side effect of this is a gain in speed, particularly in high RPM, low torque motors. With MOSFETs you can take advantage of your fastest motor with your fastest gearset, and still have power to spare, because the steering coils in a bit do not draw much current, FETs in the steering don't seem to help much, if at all.

Either, or both work great. :-D

as a general guide, dual cell increases the voltage which translates to top speed. fets increase current delivered to the motor, torque. a fet mod will increase the speed some as the motor can push as fast as it wants to whereas before it didn't have the balls to run at max speed with a load.
i used to be cool

Agreed, but voltage also pushes current, and because you have 2 batteries being drawn on simultaneously, the batteries internal resistance is halfed, so it does increase torque as well as horsepower (top speed), and of coarse FETs just take full advantage of that.
