Ultimately it's about personal choice, the majority of my driving surface is floorboards so for my it's all about traction. I find the high tourque gearing (aqua) to be best for my surface (teal? dunno wtf that is, must be a yankee thing).
The orange and green gears just cause to much speed and I spinout from a stop very easily. All my cars are mosfeted so the increase torque available from the motor anyway still allows the rear wheels to spin out once they have a bit of dust/crap on them. This happens on normal rears and pullback rears as well, irrespective of tyre softness.
I think the ratio is gotten from the following:
Inside cog of the flywheel gets smaller for higher gearing ratios. Therefore, more turns are required by the flywheel cog to spin the axle cog a whole single rotation.
The axle cog increases in diameter and so does the amount of teeth as the gearing ratio increases. This makes sense because the axle cog needs to make up for space gained from a smaller flywheel cog.
I think this is the way it works, I'm possibly completely wrong.
ph2t.

The formula to calculate Bit gears is spur divided by pinion, times spur divided by pinion, or S/PxS/PVooDooMafia wrote:So how would you calculate the gears?
For example the stock gears on bits are 9.86:1. To see how we come up with that we have a a 6-tooth pinion, and the large part of the idler is 18 teeth. 6 into 18 is 3. The smaller part of the idler has 7 teeth, and the gear on the wheel 23. 7 goes into 23 3.28 times, rounded up. so we multiply by 3.28 and we get 9.87. I'm 1 1/100th off because I rounded up.
Here that is with the formula:
18/6=3x23/7=3.28=9.87

Before i left TRC, I created an interesting gear thread....lemme dig it up....It gave me a hint on how to make my 2:1 gearing ratio that I know today.

Dude a 2:1 gear ratio must be fucking hard to pull. I have the kitt racer gears and with fets and a nice torque motor it seems to just pull it off(with any kind of performance)Son_Gokou wrote:Before i left TRC, I created an interesting gear thread....lemme dig it up....It gave me a hint on how to make my 2:1 gearing ratio that I know today.

This is a question that's been burning inside my head for a while: Where exactly do you buy a Bit Racer gear set (s-02 or something)?VooDooMafia wrote:Dude a 2:1 gear ratio must be fucking hard to pull. kit racers came in four packs, two of em had the same gear set and the others had two different ones.
the interesting thing about kits is that the pinion uses a 7 tooth gear.
there is a clone called a the race master tornado that comes witha pink set of gears that have an 8 tooth pinion as well (best drag gears, highest top speed)

I'll work on some paintjobs as soon as I get the right equipment.
