hmm.. looks like pie's gotta deal with interference then.... and study up on my physics.. final exams in 3 days...
only thing left to do now is pull of that crip cap and solder on a new antenna... and one more question... accelerating charges create EMR, which creates interference rite? im guessin this means that fridges, my soldering iron, my TV, even the electric bread maker will cause some interference..?

Heya Pie, to an extent you are correct. Various devices cause noise, but weather or not this noise will interfere with the TX signal depends on the main frequency and/or harmonic frequncy that this noise is at. AM (which is the TX scheme used by these cars) radio signals are very susceptible to low frequncy nosie. EG: electrical heater/fan, ignition coils in cars, flourescent lighting. On the other hand high freq devices won't affect the signal eg: Cordless telephones, microwave ovens.
The stock antenna on the car is a piece shit. I have found that the more right angled to the ground (ie, as straight up as possible) the antenna is the better. As soon as the antenna starts to curl/bend over, your RX is reduced BIGTIME!
In the end I used No. 9 electric guitar string. This wire is the best for an antenna. The wire is tensile so it's straight all the time, also it's very light and doesn't affect the car's balance and doesn't add to any interia. 12cm is a good length.
Doing the following things have given me an average 12M range with my cars.
Crip cap in car removed.
Guitar string antenna.
Tuning the variable inductor on the car (incorrectly called the POT mod)
No mod to the TX was really needed. The cars are 2*MS and 2*Compact Char-G. The higher freq cars (40,57Mhz) usually had a better "out-of-the-box" range than the lower freq 27, 35mhz, etc...
