IR controllers

On the IR controllers there is a switch that will make it go from channel a,b,c. If I put a jumper wire on that switch can I send out two or more signals to control more than one car at a time. I am working on a small project and want to use the boards from these cars as the "brains" but I need more options. I know I can just switch back and forth but I want to run multiple channels at the same time. has anyone done this?
