Need Help with the DC Mod (betty-K or any of the gurus)

Ok, My question for this Mod is, the Atmel chip had 8 terminal 4 on each side. By the picture we can see the 4 wires solder to the board were the chip is placed. I can see the the corner wires are probably making contact with the corner terminals, But how about the 2 center wires? They just seemed solder to the board and not making any contact with the chip. Can anyone give a bit more info on this?
