Don't believe the hype (perfection)

Post by payaso »

I use to be on this motor kick, and have bought almost all of them, but kinda stopped when the "Perfection" series hit the market.. I figured around 50 motors was enough.

Ever since perfection hit, that's kinda the bulk of the motor talk lately.. I've been hearing all these great reviews on how good their motors are, and how fast they are, so I couldn't resist anymore.

I now have three of the 4.2s (2 pros, and a King)

All I can see that they are good for is torque. The speed on them is shit compared to a 3.8 from bitchar-Gmotors. (Kyles)

Back in the day, people were always asking him to make a faster motor than the 3.8 he made, but he always claimed to making as fast as he could already.. 3.8 is pretty much the limit.

His parents own a factory that makes motors for pagers, so he knows his shit.

Now after testing out some higher RPM 4.2 motors against his 3.8s, I see that he was not being lazy or BSing. His 3.8s out run any motor I have in flat out top end speed.

With all that said, I feel like I've been lied to by perfection. I feel like they are counting on people (kids) with out alot of loot to buy their product first cause the higher RPM rating. And I guess if all you had to compare it to was the stock 1.0/2.2 that your car came with, then yeah, it's a fast little gem...

Namuna has tested the 3.8 from Kyle, and it tested true to it's stated RPM, so how could a 42,000 motor be twice as slow as a 38,000 RPM motor?

I think "Perfection" would call their motors 7.0s if that's what people wanted to hear.

Does anybody else have these motors to test? (3.8 from Kyle/4.2 Perfection)

Sorry for the rant, but I was so hyped up on getting a motor that was gonna be a butt load faster than my fastest one, so when I got it, and felt the dissapoinment in it, I had to share it with you guys.. I feel like perfection are liars.

They should just put on the site, Well, it's really a 2.2 with a different color endbell on it, but we can put stickers on the box that say whatever you want..

End rant.

Well I dont have the 3.8 motor to test this but I can say that my 4.2 king (white endbell with little metal connector and a TE lable on it)is fast and almost double the speed of my tomy 2.6.

Maybe its time to get some 3.8's and test the little biggers out.

I agree that the rated RPMs are not that meaningful in determining a motor's true "performance." I find also that different motors behave differently under certain circumstances, like with dual cells or mosfets. It kind of reminds me of wattage output ratings on stereo or guitar amps. I've had 25 watt amps blow away 200 watt amps.

For me, one characteristic that that almost trumps overall speed is ability to coast. That quality helps me turn the fastest lap times and have the driving feel that most closely resembles real driving. One of my favorite motors for this reason is TinyRC's Fomula 34 motor. I have one of Kyle's pink motors (I think that was a 3.5) and it was my fastest motor by quite a bit. The biggest problem for me with his motors was longevity.

i never bought into anyones hype. i got one of the first rspecs and it died after about 10minutes. so i just stuck with my pink clone motors that have been totally reliable and kick the crap out of all the ms and zz motors. but i got some perfections with a te order and i gota say i like them. almost as much torque as the pink motor and a lot better high end. i dono i think they are pretty good for 4 bucks.

I'm with hog, I've been less than impressed with rspec motors and I really dig the Perfection motors I've had. I also agree with SuperFly... the Formula 34 motor is awesome. For the money though, Perfections are my favorite.

totally agree with hogjolwz. I have a pink motor in my dual cell, and it hasn't quit on me yet.

I don't have any perfections, but I have 3 of every single motor Kyle ever put out, they all rock - the 3.8 is the fastest I've ever seen, but like I said, I've never seen the perfections so....

I said something similar at TRC about Perfection motors when I first tried the 3.8, and that was it is not as fast as my Bit Char-G Motors pink endbell 3.8, and probably not as fast as the 3.2. I also thought Perfection motors are all hype.

But they do have good torque, and I like power, and they are cheap, and I like cheap. So I've been buying the Perfection motors, and I'm partial to the 4.2 Pro.

BUt then I started playing with mosfets, now I have power to spare, and I recently won another pink endbell 3.8, and a R-Spec II in TRC's 100,000 RPM give away, and with FETs these motors hit top speed instantly, and I was reminded of just how impressive that top speed is.

I still like perfection motors for their price, and I plan to buy more, but I agree the number rating is bogus and just hype.
...crazy man, crazy...dig it.

I've 2 of his pink end bell 3.8's and 1 of his green end bell 3.8
green is the older version.
that sucker flew, but had very little torque, but the top speed was just increadible. took too long to reach the top speed though
pink is the newer version.
that sucker flew too, has pretty good torque. put it with a mosfet or dual cell and it's a killer combo.

sorry voodoo, since kyle doesn't sell anymore and not to mention I've ran the shit outta 2 of the 3, I gots to hang on to it, I know I'll be using, probably soon when the other bites the dust.

didn't TinyRC buy out kyle though?
