4.2 motor and possibly 200 mAh batt bulk buy, you in?

Post by Colin4371 »

I may be doing a bulk order from toyeast, and was wondering if anyone would pay 7.50 for one of each, the king and pro 4.2 motors. I might also do a big 200 mAh battery order. would anyone be intrested in either of the two? a single order from toyeast to USA after s/h alone, the 4.2 motor is roughly 10 bucks, and its a long wait for shipping.

*edit* the 200mAh batts will probably be about 3.50 per.

Lithiums?

Post by Cheesehead »

Has anyone tried Lithium Ion/Lithium Polymer batteries on these things? You can find them in old cell phone battery packs. A surplus qualcomm 1-cell pack is only 5.00, so they're affordable. Of course, a charger is about 30.00 (I have the Apache 1-2cell for my R/C plan), but it's well worth it-and you may be able to find a Qualcomm charger to go with it.
The benifits of going Li-ion are immense. A single 700mah cell will give about 4x the duration of a 200 mah NiMh cell, and it delivers 3x the voltage. Although a bit wide, modern Lithium Polymer packs (such as the E-Tec's and Kokams) can deliver even more duration, with a single 1200 Mah cell weighing only 23 grams! If this seems a bit large, there are also 340 mah cells that would fit very nicely.
Of course, there are some tricky problems with Li-Ions/Li-Po's. Both batteries (Li-Po is really just a better kind of Li-Ion) cannot be drained below 3 volts without damage. Although a simple zener diode will fix this, another major disadvantage is the charging time-Lithium batteries should be charged in no less than 1.5 hours. Of course, with 2 chargers and 3 lithium packs, you could race indefinitely!
As a side note-has anyone tried those N-20 motors found in E-chargers in these? They are very cheap, and although a shade large, they should give a decent speed increase. Also, has anyone found metal gears for these things?
Just a few ideas-but I have used Lithiums with great success, and want to see what y'all can do.

four times the duration....
