I'm a fresh fish, be gentle. Got a couple of things:
First, I've got a light blue endcap motor, maybe a 3.8 but advertised as a 4.2 from Perfection(LXX) brand at ToyEast's online shop. It goes faster than the supposed 3.8 light blue endcaps that I've got(2 of them) and is so torquey that the back end of the car shakes when the motor spins without gears or axle attached. It's been treated with WD40 and Singer Sewing Machine Oil. It's faster than anything I've got besides the Super Bit Pullbacks(those things are drag behemoths), and I got another car and some more motors from ToyEast, advertised all as 4.2's and a 4.2 King, with the tan cap and the E on it.
The advertised 4.2's aren't as fast as that shaky motor of mine, and that King motor just flat out is a speed dud. It's visually slower than a Microsizers 2.2 motor, and the stage I speed of my shaky motor is as fast or faster than the stage II speed of the King, even on the Perfection Phantom Racing Chassis.
I think that King of mine has 1.0 potential for my street legal mode racing, and the spare 3.8's(advertised as 4.2's) will be given as gifts to two of my nephews so they can taste some real speed.
Is there a way to make the 4.2K any faster (or faster than my shaky motor, the "4.2" I've got) besides dismantling it or increasing my battery load to more than one 200mAh cell?

have a little hunt through the forums, i remember a recent topic about this very thing. basically, the perfections are hit and miss. i never thought much of the 4.2 pro king "elvis" whatever (the ones with the e sticker), my personal fave is the old school purple zz noz motor.

Yeah Perfection is crazy. I've got a 3.5, several 3.8s, and several 4.2 pros that all have that same light blue endbell, and they all look like the motors that come in Cannoballs that are a very fast 2.6. So It's hard to keep my motors straight sometimes.

In general, inconsistancies aside, the 4.2 Pro (light blue endbell) seems a lot faster than the 4.2 King (Tan endbell), because it has a lot more torque, and accelerates a lot quicker, but I think they top out at about the same speed.

That of coarse is when you're comparing 2 good motors, the bad ones seem to come in batches.

my favorite motor is still the "pink clone motor". the 4.2 elvis is great. the perfection 3.8 isnt bad either. ive never been a fan of the zz motors tho they aint that bad.

the only motors that i dont like are tomy motors.

To the Hog: Yeah, I hear ya. I hate tomy motors (microsizers). They are too small to fit correctly. I might as well dump it, but if I can get a piece of metal or plastic in a ring around the drive spindle, it should fit, no problem. As for the ZZ upgrade kit, it has all three gears, 2.8 and 3.4 motors, and a Boss 302 mustang and Cuda Hemi bodies and some hubcaps. Are those bodies, gears, and motors even useable with my LXX and Perfection Chaissis? Also, what's the "Pink Clone" motor and where can I get a couple for how much?

Zip Zaps are longer than bits and their clones, so no you will not be able to use the bodies, unless you want to stretch a custom chassis to fit, which is what I like to do, rather than buy another Zip Zap.

You can use the motors and gears, but they will not match visually. You could pull the wheels off one the axles, and do a Zip Zap wheel mod to the front. At any rate if you try to order a motor off the internet it'll end up costing about 12.99 after shipping anyways, so you might as well go for the spare parts.

The pink endbell clone motor comes in clones cars like the Thunder Charger, Cyclon-A, or Precious. Runs about as fast as a 3.0, but is very torquey. Since it already has a lot of torque, it doesn't see much gain from the FET mod, but with multiple cells this motor is really hard to beat.

I figured I'd have to do something to those bodies, but as long as the gears and motors fit, great. Where can I get a Thunder Charger, Precious, or Cyclon-A for super cheap?

Here's a stupid idea: Use a micronized co2 cartridge with a remote output (stage III) switch leading the exhausting co2 to a scooper gear on the right rear wheel. There's a poor man's nitrous system right there, ha ha ha.
