hummm, well i tried doing the dual cell on QFM but had no luck. so i changed my car back to a single cell. is there some trick that i need to do to get this done right? also for a battery charger. a 4AA charger.. how long should i leave a dual on that charger, anyone know?

my mini cooper body will handle 3 cells interanlly. so i might try this next.

You know I still haven't gotten around to doing it yet, (thinkin' bout it now I should really do that b4 attemting a tri-cell )... On QFM's site they bypassed the TX PBC and connected the battery box right to the charging port, I'm sure you already read that, I forget how long to leave it on though?!

BTW custombitbodys, what exactly went wrong when you tried the mod?

yea i tried that, unfortnately it wont charge. at least not fast... you need at least 3 batteries. to get the job done. my car did auctually work for about 3 charges, then i started fooling with it and noting. but you really do need 3 or 4 cells to charge with. my main issues were that i counld not get it to charge, i think partially because i didnt do a good job soldering. i eneded up using a 4 cell holder from the reciever of my old RC10 1/10 racer. i just plugged the charger from the controller into this pack. charge for about 45-60 sedconds. at the time i was just a bit afraid of destroyin the car. but i think i need to get a better solderign iron befor i continue.. i couldnt get the damm batteries soldered.. maybe i got the wrong solder or something. any suggestions?

the key to gettin solder to stick to a battery is to take a small piece of sandpaper and roughing the center up a little bit. the just kinda try to drop a tiny blop of solder on it.

I've tried that too, normally what hogjowlz says would work.
However, I had a really old soldering iron and even more ancient solder, it stuck about as good as a dry booger under a school-kids desk.

but I know that was the solder and the iron themselves, nothing more.

another suggestion to help all you hustlas(do people still say hustlas?) with soldering is this:

dont try to solder like a welder welds. a lot of newbies probably put the dry solder on what they are trying to solder and then put the heat on it hoping it drips into place. that is really messy.

instead get some solder on the tip of the iron and dab a little drop onto what you want to solder. then wipe your iron off with a sponge and put a bigger blob onto the iron and coat the tip of the wire with solder. wipe the iron again and then just apply heat to both contacts for a few secs and pull away real quick. this will look cleaner and you wont get stray solder on anything like your hand.

wow, good info to know, I've always got the wire hot with my iron, then on the other side of the wire, I applied the solder. I'll have to try your route.

80% of my electronics experience comes from gettin buzzed with my old ladies uncle. dude seriously has a lot of junk. and a ton of test equipment and even more crazy ideas to try.

he has fixed my turntable, mixer, vcrs, playstation2, headphones(multiple times)

lately we spend a few hours tweaking our cars out and then drive them on crazy terrain.

he also has a coronet rt that he used to do 11 or 12 second 1/4miles with.

one day were gona make these things go the speed of light. haha

point is, you can get pretty creative with a buzz and all that stuff laying around!

yupp. he works on high voltage during the day and a/v stuff and cars and crap at night.

The method I use to solde is the same as hogjowlz. Works best for me so far.. I can get down pretty good with a torch and some blingin gold.. My torch tips are "rose buds" and have a ruby in the tip with a microscopic hole drilled in it.. Very cool.
