New Type Suspension?

Post by Username »

...partly inspired by betty.k, evo, and a golf cart like thing
Just trying to design it...to somehow make the suspension indepedent likehere

1. Chassis chopped bit

2. Connect back part of the chopped bit to the front with a hinge plate(from betty.k's mod

3. Get a plastic board long enough to fit over the pcb cover and rear part of the chopped bit

4. Get two screws like from betty.k's mod, but shorter, and screw them into the board, far enough to get past the threads

5. Slide short springs onto the screws(too long and the bit will be arched)

6. Screw a piece of plastic onto the screw(just like betty.k's)

7. Glue the board onto the pcb cover...and you've got suspension?????????

Okay, maybe those instructions were like crap, but this is what I am trying to get at/design
oh yeah, I guess you would have to cut out some sort of hole for the antenna...

my drawing...I'm worse at mspaint...

i like it. instead of making a custom pcb, you could also use a zipzap pcb cover. theres only one problem, it will not work because when it is pushed upwards or compressed, the rear wheels and motor part will change angles, but the pcb cover will not. sorry to brust your bubble, but it wouldve been a waste of time for anyone to try this.

aaaah you're right, make that board flexible!

edit: and in no way did you burst my bubble, this is just a concept :)

Any trial and error chassis yet?

I think you could pull that off.

I only have one thought. How would the body sit on it? Mounts, and the way the body would be raised due to the suspension.

Maybe if you mount the body like an Iwaver. :???:

You'll need to leave the ass end free moving, so the rear tab would be obsolete.

I could try it, but I still need to get all the parts for it, and I haven't really used my shell anyway :-)

or do like betty and glue foam inside of the sides of the body and make it a force fit by the foam but it can come off...that is geneous

Check out the disc-dampers they make for MR-02 Mini-Zs. Pretty similar concept.

Or you could just try like an OG Mini-Z and experiment with the bottom plate. If it is not just a hinge but a firm and flexible piece, you could vary the width or thickness to achieve the right amount of flex and just avoid the whole top spring thing altogether.

The way the disc damper solves the problem is that the hole is bigger than the post, and the pressure from the discs keeps it centered. Bits are too small (IMO) to effectively duplicate the Mini-Z disc damper, but bits probably don't need side-to-side flexibility, so you could just make the hole in the top plastic piece elongated to allow for the small amout of travel you will have.

Actually, I was just thinking to fix the flexible board problem, we could just use two pieces of thick plastic instead of one, that are NOT connected to each other, well at least not connected to each other off of the pcb cover
One piece of thick plastic per screw

if you didn't know, I was planning to use two small screws and springs

:-)

edit: you know what else, this will fix the problem w/ the antenna being blocked

i think this will work fine, just a little bulky imo. there's plenty of ways to get a body on, you could even use a bus body to hide all the insides.
i pretty much copied the mr01 design for mine, and i find a rear end that rolls as well as moves up/down tracks nicely and stays on the ground better than just an up/down design. keep us posted :-)
i used to be cool

I've thought up 2 more designs, one I think is really good, I will edit this in the morning with my drawings...

I'm done chassis choppin' and I have most of the screws I need

edit: my bad sg219, you're right

[excuse]I don't think either of them will work for the reason that screws cannot grow in length...the designs will just make more problems
With all my designs, in order to get independent movement for each of the two screws, one would compress, and one screw would have to grow[/excuse]

so right now, stampede_dude's design is looking the best, because the flexible plastic will work

edit again: wait, I'm a dumbass, my designs work with the flexible plastic from stampede_dude's design, I guess this post will be edited once again(drawing)

but I did make a new hinge design, that will hopefully work along side this "New Type Suspension"!
It will need to be a pivoting bar to move side to side, a flexible bar to bend up and down, and a strong bar to keep the motor housing and the front connected!
The problems so far...
-finding a bar that will fit those req.(don't ask me how I found this, but a cheap broomstick's bristles(the plastic-like ones)look okay, but will get worn out)
-securing the bar

OK, then why don't you just go ahead and do that, instead of having a warning post. :???:

Still a great idea. I hope whatever you have cookin' works out in the end.

I'm sorrrry, so sorrrry, but I accidentally cracked my chassis today, sorry for anyone who wanted to see this suspension on a stock chassis, which added to the fact that I wanted to do other mods to this one bit(or get another one?).

Well, if anybody really wanted to see this on a stock chassis, I could do it, because the crack is really tiny(it's ridiculous, it's not even funny).

- you decide -

edit: by the way after I do this mod with the stock chassis(if anyone wants it that way), then I will mod it again to do it more custom-like
