Drifting, alternate parts, and a problem with wheelswaps

I've been playing around for a while with different surfaces and tires to get that tail slide feel that you'd see in a D-1 competition and can't get the nuances right. Has anyone perfected a combination suitable for that kind of method? I have been able to do some funny looking shit without tires on bare wheels though.

Also, I've been wondering if the best single battery out there is the 200mah from Perfection, which I find affordable at Toyeast. How would a Lithium Ion battery in the same space do compared to the present lineup of NiCD's and NiMH's available? 'Freakin' sweet' comes to mind if you could, though, since a LION battery has more capacity and output than a comparably sized NiMH one, if the numbers out there are correct.

Besides that, is the only way to drive the rear wheels on a Bit by gears, or has somebody managed a direct drive system, like a rubber band? Seems interesting, especially for true tests of motor output, since there is only the motor driving the wheels to get a reading. Or just to shit around, but worth a try.

Lastly, I've tried to follow the guidelines for doing a wheelswap with Pullback wheels/tires, but on one car, the rear axle is slightly unbalanced. Is there a way to retry balancing the axle when everything is glued in place? I'll be doing three more wheelswaps in the next couple of days

the best battery (if you can find them) are the little green 150mah nicads. more punch than any of the nimh i've used.

lion batts require special soldering, charging and maintenance than nimh/nicads. and if treated incorrectly can explode and burn your house down. they also have triple the voltage (3.6v) of regular nimh/nicad.

rubber belt drivetrain at this scale would cause too much friction, not really worth it.

and them rims? pull em off and start again.

yea the rubber band would slip a bunch, and shit. I'v never seen 150 nicd, but iv used the Nimhs. I may try to look for sum of em. And if you wonna drift get an Xmod-1/18-1/10 cuz bits aint gunna drift.

to stagg: I tried it myself, the whole rubber band thing, and there just aren''t any small enough, I guess. There's more that I think would have to be considered, like a custom pulley wheel that the band follows from the motor, like a supercharger, and the same thing for the axle it goes to, which could never use a gear setup, rather a pulley wheel as well. As far as battteries go, the worst I've seen was an LXX 80mah that had a neon greenish yellow jacket. It blew out on my sharger after one cycle.

Oh, and a friend of mine I'm getting a bit selection for (it's his 21st B-Day) has an XMOD, I'm not as into them as he is. I gotta get him into bits, so I can whoop his ass on my custom Tamiya Kakegawa Circuit. I wonder if it's 'competiion size'? the area is 4x8 feet, and it still needs guardrails, I'm thinking poster tacks and fishing line, to keep costs free.

Gotta work on that track!

or, heh heh heh, the lowrider Sex Machine, where you remove the mounting lugs on a chassis and replace them with 2-piece up/down servos on front and rear so the car can go a rockin back and forth while you rock a biatch (or betch, if you listen to Arabian rappers GroupX) back and forth.

The idea just popped into my head to use a high output capacitor matched to a bit motor that would be borderline to blow out upon tripping a remote switch that bypasses the regular bit battery. The suggestion of instant superboost is friggin rad. The easiest might be to rig up a way to wind back a Bit pullback spring/gear/winding assembly and remote trigger it to an idle gear that connects to the axle gear in a different place.

But the most expensive add on?
Has anyone heard of this new kind of pill camera that doctors are using to broadcast color video from a persons' insides? That used as a bit viewpoint in action would be AWESOME!!! (it would be pretty spendy though) I found out about it from an episode of "Ripley's Believe It Or Not".

I read a shitty Sharper Image catalog and they offered a Porsche Cayenne RC for ($130+ not sure) with a built in camera and an LCD display on the friggin remote controller. Too bad the RC was probably a piece of shit.

the pill cam takes 1 pic per second and can only transmit signal for a meter or 2. the reciever and hard drive is worn on the subjects belt. there is a usb pen cam around, same size as a usb storage keyring thing which shoots 5 min of pretty good quality vid, i've seen footage taken with it strapped to a bit and a model plane. can't help you with a name at this point, i'll have a hunt.

wouldn't a set of those black rubber O rings make a better belt drive than a rubber band? Rubber bands are made to stretch, which makes them shitty for transmitting power. O rings are nice and round and non-stretchy, which I think might make them better as a belt drive. You could chuck some brass round stock into the lathe and turn a couple of miniature pullies with just the right profile to handle the O rings.

I'd consider it, since my brother was getting a lathe for his glasswork, but I don't have a goddamn idea how to use one, though I think there are miniature plastic pulleys in certain POS radios out there with analog dials, for turn ratio reduction purposes. But O rings, hmmm. Sounds interesting.

Here's another lame miniaturization idea: Bit size Limited Slip! Remove wheels from an axle and custom fit axle with two plastic parts that will act like a bearing. Then put some wheels on with the center cut out so they mount on these plastic "hubs". It might make a functional slip, and at the very least it can make a car wind up ALOT before launching because the wheels would be driven by plastic on plastic friction, after going through the gear reduction and the motor. I should probably explain that better, but you can do the same thing by putting oversize hard plastic O rings on a bit to act as wheels and make it go. The effect is essentially the same, without the grip. I have a diagram I can scan in on request, if anyone can suggest an image hosting service to post the image. (I can't think of any at the moment)
