The Bit-Diff

Post by Clint »

The Bit Diff

2 xmod bearings
1 zz axle
brass rod(hobby shop)
3 blue zz transfer gears
short alum tube(hobby shop)
styrene plastic(for capping off gear)
zzmt driveshaft gear
4 washers (xmod wheel spacers, if you have them)

basically just connect to chassis by the xmod bearings. minor chassis mod required, but not a big deal.

Or you can use it inside a ZZMT.

This diff is going in my 1/32 Ferrari Enzo.

movie... requires quicktime or 3g2/3gpp cellphone video codec

I think nasphere will be a little jealouse, and stoked, at this. I know I am. I remember his attempt last year.

Why just one spider gear? Wouldn't a second one provide more stability in the diff?

Threw it in the ferrari tonite. The diff is very smooth.
It doesn't randomly do donuts anymore, like it did with the solid axle.
Turning radius is downright sexy. 8-)

Sorry, it was hard taking video and messing with the diff at the same time, but here goes.
http://www.v6power.net/clint/mwhq.net/b ... ffenzo.3g2

Motor gearbox is the steering servo gearset from a 1:24 ssmt,
as is the orange pinion. This geared it down as it was uncontrollable
before. Now it has tire shredding torque and will turn on a dime. :-o

Hotness.

Installed. I'm going to cut some of the axle off on the non-geared side
and then recenter..it will all fit within the body. I thought the extra
wideness would help, but the enzo is wide enough and looks silly with the
tires showing. I was able to maintain the rear suspension. You can see
the pivot point.

I was thinking about using 2..but it seriously doesnt need it. that spider
gear is massive. Compare it to the xmod/evo spider gears. :? I've been
beating on it with 7.2v. Holding up fine.

If you think about how this diff works... when going straight, the whole diff assembly moves as one peice, the spider gear isnt even moving. the spider gear only moves during a turn and only enough to compensate
the differences in tire travel thru the turn.

In the video(in the previous post) i was doing full throttle tire stops, that means while i was holding the tire still, the powered side of the diff was going full speed while the other side was stopped. The spider gear was hauling ass. This is basically the harshest thing you can do to any diff.

Dammit, can we just make a "Cool Shit Clint's Done" Section on this damned site? I'm constantly having to do long search to find all the stuff!!

That Bit Diff is some mighty fine sexiness!
