Coworker brought in his Xray M18 today...

Post by Namuna »

After only driving his in a circle for a couple of laps I already know I MUST get one of these things!!!

My Xmods Hummer Evo is a turdly shitbox compared to the M18. Realistically you can't even try to compare them.

This SUCKS! I can't be getting hooked on yet another thing right now!...But I have no damned choice!

I must express my conflicted emotions in Hiaku.

Oh dear M18,
insane speed, adrenaline!
Xmods turdly shit!

Sigh, maybe I can get away with a LiPo and FET upgrade on the Hummer?...Eh, who am I kidding, that M18 was soooooo sweet.  :(

XRAY makes killer rigs... You can pick up a used one with quite a bit of hop-ups for cheap... You know they make that 1/18 in nitro right?

XRAY NT18

Your hiaku is awesome....lol

i've seen one of those things clock 50mph and handle it without a problem!

ph2t had one, it's kinda like a slightly bigger gen 1 xmod with better a design and higher quality control.

p.s. haiku's are not cool, write me a sonnet :-)

Ditto that. It's my most used car.

I'm trying to justify buying a Motek chassis, but the stock
chassis works so damn well..it's almost not worth it.
Only suspension mod is the 2 degree rear toe. (sacrifices some
stability for longer lasting rear foam, 4 deg eats foamies like whoaski.)

The stock gear diffs have survived months of mamba/lipo bashing.
Ive got a pair of ball diffs sitting on the shelf. Darn thing is damn near indestructable.

You bunch of monkey bastards are NOT helping me!!!

I can't be hearing all this how-great-it-is business! You people are DIRECTLY contributing to my eventual demise!

Sigh, who am I kidding... I'm already watching the forums/ebay for a good deal on a M18.

Well, it's all over now...I just got a guy to end his ebay auction early and sell me his M18 package for $120 shipped.

For $120 (shipped) I'm getting:
- M18 Chassis
- Novak Spy ESC
- Hitec HS 81MG Metal-Gear Servo
- 2 x 7.2v 1100mah batts

I've checked on the prices on previously sold packages and keep thinking I only got a so-so deal...but then I think about how much the pieces would cost to buy new and it would've been over $200 after the shipping, so I don't think I did too bad.

Okay, I don't know what's in the M18 Kit, so here's a list of all the other stuff I believe I need to get, someone help me out if I'm missing anything...

- Radio System (Tx and Rx)
I'm watching eGay for a deal on Spectrum DX2 (I'd like to find ONLY the Tx so I can get the Micro Rx to go with it)
- Motor
I'm thinking Mamba Brushless 6800kV. I'm looking for more torque/punch, top speed isn't priority. Hopefully this motor is the right choice for that?
- Does the M18 Rolling Chassis set come with the Mounts (Motor, ESC, etc...)? If not, then I need to get those
- Motor Heatsink
Don't know where to get this

What else do I need? And any other suggestions are welcome as well.

Thanks.

FYI. The brushless motor wont work with the novak spy, but you can use the spy for 1:28th scale... (would be fun on the hummer *wink* *wink* )

If you are going mamba 6800.. get it here with the ESC combo. best price around. http://www.b-p-p.com you may also want the usb-link. CC has file updates for the mamba every so often.. they make a big difference.

HS 81mg works well, That's what i'm using. When it breaks, i have an hs 85mg ready to drop in. Make sure you have a servo saver on it.

If you stick with nimh, you need a gp1100 based battery pack with the mamba.. better is to go lipo. 6800 is pretty sick on a 3s lipo.

Mamba is 20mm in diameter, so there are many heatsinks out there for it.
ebay, tower, rcmart..etc

Also you may want an aluminum motor mount. the atomic aluminum motor mount/heat sink combo is nice since you can screw a mini fan on it
for even more cooling.

Thanks for the breakdwon Lint-with-a-C,

...And don't you be wink'n at me buddy! All your sick mods was what lit the fire under my ass and got me all addicted again to this stuff! Your winks are DANGEROUS!

My Co-worker buddy schooled me this morning about how the Novak Spy t'ain't no good with brushless. He's using a Team Orion Elite Micro Modified Motor so I'm going to switch teams and go with that Motor instead so I can use the Novak Spy with it.

Well, I should be good-to-go now (except for the motor heatsink)...

Today I bought an Orion Elite Modified Micro Motor and a Spektrum DX3 set, both from enolagay

What size heatsink do I need to get for this Motor?

The size specs for it says:

SPECS: Length: 1-3/4" including the 5/16" long shaft.
Width: 3/4"
Height: 9/16"

I'm so internally conflicted. I'm totally excited to get the goodies, and I"m totally guilt ridden for spending the mullah on yet another RC product! Why couldn't I just be a drunk or be addicted to drugs? You can actually get your medical insurance to pay to get help with the other stuff!

Cool beans man... I was going to suggest a micro mod motor over the BL systems. Simply cause you have a spy esc coming, and there are some killer mod motors out there. :-o

I run the Reedy in my rc18 with the Reedy GP cells, and it's a fuckin rocket.

We're going to need pics upon arrival.
