My Grandma is awesome: 20yo RC

Well the sad news is my Grandfather is not doing too well, and has been moved to a home. After visiting him we stopped by to see how Grandma was doing, and she just wanted to talk about moving, and dividing up her stuff. She's an avid pack rat/collector, and has been gathering stuff since the 40s. I really didn't feel comfortable talking about the subject, so just to kind of move away from it I said, "I don't know, you just have a bunch of Grandma stuff. I don't want to take your stuff, but if you got some RCs, or guitars then we'll talk." I said this assuming she had neither around, but this statement instead sent her running to the storage shed.

She brought back a 20 year old Radio Shack RC, that is nearly identical to one I had when I was a teen. I was my uncle's, and his girlfriend had bought it for him as kind of a joke birthday gift. I think it only ever got run that day, and was put away after the party, as there is still a chunk of icing left from the birthday cake on the tire.

My friend called right when I was pulling it out of the box, so I was a little distracted. When I told him about it and he asked if it was cool, I told him, "Not really, 20 years ago it was a crappy Radio Shack car, but now that I'm almost 40 and I haven't seen one in 20 years, it's way cool!" My favorite part is the old 80s F-150 body. These were my favorite years for those.

I think my cousin Brad had one of those (it was a Radio Shack/Tandy thing anyway), I wanted one too but my dad gave me the standard "well, you can have one when you earn enough money to buy one" speech. :-( I probably would have bought one but I discovered Cox RC stuff...it wasn't much faster but it made noise. :-D

Great find, cool grandma :-o

You and me were opposite, I knew guys with Tamiyas, and Cox line cars, and I wanted something like that, but my dad just kept buying me these kind of cars from RS.

Yeah, I laughed at the box art, then I realized that my uncle loved to go camping at the time, and now lives off a lake. That cheesy box art may have just been the selling point.

Uhh yeah, I don't see that happening.

Have not ran it yet. It was left on, and the batteries corroded in the battery compartment. Big mess to clean up. It is also missing the antenna for the controller, I'm just about to give up on finding one that will screw right in, and solder one in there.

I'll get around to it. I'm in no hurry to drive it, it's just cool to have.

Sidewinder, I'll mail it to you, and give you a dollar to post a vid of you eating it.
