Good Basher?

Post by Scorpion »

Wow my Pro Pulse truck hasnt even come in yet (Should be on my doorstep monday night) but I already feel the need for somthing with more power..

Im looking for somthing to bash the hell out of. No racing really just bashing around.

Im undecided on Electric or Nitro. My old truck was a nitro so part of me wants to go back nitro but its been a couple years since ive been in the hobby and the new electric RTRs are looking pretty good. Mainly the Rustler and Stampede VXLs I know both the pede and rustler were great bashers years ago and I can only imagine the new ones would be better..

Still I think I may miss the sound and fun of a nitro..

Heres the models Im looking at right now

Electric
Rustler VXL
Stampede VXL

Nitro
Jato 3.3
HPI Savage
HPI Firestorm

Like I said ive been out for a couple of years so maybe theirs somthing new out there I dont know about..

Bottom line Im looking for a good basher with a budget of around $400 1/10 or bigger

I've got a VXL Bandit and love it (same as Rustler but shorter arms and buggy wheels). It'z kind of amazing how tough the thing is. I've run it head on into a steel pole at top speed (on 7 cell battery--so maybe 40-45mph) and all that broke was one A-arm, a wheel and a rod end on the shock. After fixing that I hit a tree and took out another wheel...not even a hint of a crack in the frame. And the good thing about the Rusty is you can get RPM arms for them and eliminate the weak point that the Bandit has so it should be just about bullet proof.

IDK about the others but I can give a thumbs up to the Rusty. Oh, and BTW, with a 20c 3S lipo the Rusty will hit 70+mph. I borrowed a lipo for my Bandit once, it was insane--it got really hot, but then afterward I realized i was supposed to change the gearing. The lipo and gear change is absolutely on my summer must do list.

Yeah A Rustler was my first hobby RC I loved it.. But that was years ago before they even had the XL5s.. It was amazing how tough it was and I know the VXL has to be a thousand times better considering its 2 generations newer than my old Ruslter..

If I go Electric Im pretty sure its going to be a VXL rusty or pede.. My only hang up is if I even want to go electric or not..

Im still thinking about Nitro I think I would miss the sound and the tuning and all that stuff but then again I wouldnt have to buy fuel all the time..

I can vouch for the Traxxas electrics on your list. I have both the Bandit (XL5 at the moment) and the Stampede (VXL/LiPo). I really like my Bandit but just keep in mind that buggies are somewhat limited by ground clearence.

The Stampede is a GREAT all around basher and is at home on most all surfaces. Like most Traxxas offroad stuff it's silly tough, inexpensive to maintain and parts are more available than porn. With a VXL/LiPo combo, it's the only RC I have that consistantly makes me giggle out loud. I run mine in the snow and with the right tires and frozen snow, the whole freakin planet becomes the Stampede's play ground.

I'll throw the Slash in here as well...I REALLY like this truck ALOT. It has alot of scale appeal both in the looks department and the driving department. It may not be the first truck you think of as a basher but that's what I do with mine and it's great fun and competes with my Stampede for the truck I'm most likely to grab on any given day.

I can't vouch for any of the nitro on your list except to say it seems I've read nothing but good things about the Savage. Much like the Reaper mentions, people seem to be fiercely loyal to that truck. It does look mighty cool!

Good luck! :-D

Yeah id love to get a savage but im not sure if I can afford one on a 400 dollar budget.

And I refuse to buy a nitro used.

I am pretty much decided on nitro though. The jato 3.3 really has my attention to and i know i can get everything I need for it and stay in budget.

If you're thinking nitro, nitrorcx.com has been really offering some great deals lately...I'd check this out http://www.nitrorcx.com/1scexrcramog.html...they have it in 1/8 scale too (but out of stock right now).

Yeah I can get a kit but it would be pointless because I wouldnt have the servos and Tx/Rx otherwise id be all over it... and actually Ive found a RTR Savage X but its like 385 new I could do it but by the time I add shipping plus fuel and other items ill need im gonna be over $400

At this point Im considering the MGT 3.0 or the Jato 3.3 the only thing Im worried about with the MGT 3.0 is being able to find parts.. So right now im leaning towards the Jato.

I guess this thread needs to be moved to the Nitro section.. lol

But atleast My Propulse came in yesterday I havent had time to mess with it much but it seems like a fun little truck..
