Blew an axle at the track yesterday

Post by stampede_dude »

I recently bought a rustler for $50 to race, since I was getting tired of breaking things on my rc10t3. I dropped my ss4300 in it, and it ran surprisingly well for a stock truck with masher 2000's and a 4300. After a while, I melted the u-joint off from the stub axle from them heating up under so many rpms and brass bushings. Earlier, I picked up some items to do some conversions to use regular race wheels that I had picked up from the Ultimate Rustler page on www.ultimaterc.com. What do you know, I had picked up the 1.5 degree toe in carriers for the 4tec to use. I saw the aluminum 4tec axles earlier, but since they were $15 I decided against them. After I broke the axle, I took the plunge and bought them. After I bought them, I was extremely disappointed when they were a tad bit too short for my stock carriers. Then I remembered I bought the 1.5 toe in 4tec carriers. After installing them and a few washers plus the bearings, a direct fit! No more axle breaking for me :)

With the 4tec carriers, the axles were almost a direct fit.

A side shot to show that the axles are not totally exposed, they are partially inside of the carriers.

As seen here, for the stock camber links to work, 5 washers from my local hobby shop had to be used, 2 attached to the truck, 3 to the carriers. Another option is to use adjustable ones, but washers are cheaper. The washers were generic but I expect them to be somewhere from around 1-2 mm thick.
Its better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not
