ANUBIS: The construction of...

I've started on my second custom TLT truck.

This truck will be the last I build for awhile so I'm going ALL out on it. Lots of custom work, time, money, effort, and really cool parts!!

It will be more of a trail/scale type rig with great agility. Different from the last truck I built, Prometheus, which is more of a competition type truck.

I've gotten a lot of work done so far, but there is still a lot more work to be done.

Here are some pics and info.

-Tamiya crome plated axle casings
-Fat Rocks Axle "C's"
-Custom shock/link mounts made from aluminum "U" channel
-JB weld locked diffs
-HPI aluminum hex's deanodized and the nipples ground off
-Custom GE Lexan chassis
-Aluminum chassis re-enforement bars
-RC4WD Competition size aluminum beadlocks, rings have been deanodized and polished
-Proline Masher 2000's
-Traxxas Magnum tranny
--Locked with JB weld
--Traxxas steel output yokes
--Traxxas aluminum idler gear
--Traxxas bearings
--Traxxas spur locker


I'm in the process of making custom servo mounts out of 6061 sheet aluminum. Gotta drill holes and bend.

Dude thats going to be one bad ass ride I love the chrome and the chassis is looking good!

The wheels are just plain sweet looking love the rims and tires!

Cant wait to see the Dog God done!

Afterthought....

I'd like to add before someone asks...

The reason I don't plan on getting aluminum knuckles (as of right now), is that I've been conviced over the last couple of things I've built, that I need a "weakest link".

If something is going to break, its going to be some cheap ass plastic knuckles and not something either more difficult to replace like the chassis or something else.

Those axles look killer. That's gonna be one bad ass ride.

All I can say is.. damn those are some expensive wheels.

You should name it Atlas, after another God... lol

It's just a typical SG build... which will be sure to be badass.

Update:

Chassis is painted and together.

The 6/32" aluminum rod ends from RC4WD arrived.

I ordered the 87t aluminum spur gear from RC4WD, should be here by the end of the week.

Here's the pics......












Then here is the tranny. I'm trying to mount it "on center" as much as possible, without making the chassis any wider than it is.

I cut some Lexan and bolted it on with screws facing out so I can use some 1/4" spacers to center it. Plus I need to wait for the spur gear to arrive before I go any further, because I might have to cut a slot in the side of the chassis to allow for a lager diameter spur.

Its all trial and error.

I definately getting jealous of your guy's scratch built projects, I think I'm gonna have to do something about that.

I have all the incentive I need, now I just need some cash flow.

First off....

Its been awhile since I've posted anything RC.

Here's an update on Anubis.

I have went and made some modifications, bought some new parts, and made some new parts.

First up...

I changed my tranny mounting a bit. I made a multi peice lexan set of spacers to get the tranny a little more centered.





Next up are the custom drive shafts that are almost 100% complete. They are made from some aluminum rod and tube I got from Home Depot. Also some Traxxas steel yokes that were modified and attacted.

I took the rod and put it in the drill press and cut the ends down to be inserted into the modified yokes. Then attached them to the rod peices.

I still have to finish the drive shafts. I made them longer than I need, so I have plenty of room to adjust the length when I get the the truck mocked up more. I'll cut them down.

The way I plan on making them turn is to cut a small slot on one side of the tube (about 1-1 1/2" long) to allow them to slide and then drill a hole into the rod for a set screw to protrude out from.






I bought my shocks from RC4WD for $50. These things are AWESOME!!!



Mounted the tranny. More acorn nuts!!





In these pics...

I changed the axles to Blackfoot axles to give me a bit more width. I also have a set of RC4WD 12mm adaptors that I might use, but I think they'll end up on Prometheus.

I also made some snow chains for the wheels. All I need now is some snow. lol





I still need to adjust the chains a bit. I want to add a link or two to them. They seem a bit tight.

There's my update. Enjoy.

One more thing.

The drivetrain WILL be ALL metal, with aluminum drive shafts and steel yokes that are connected.

I cut the jumping jack thing out of the steel yoke and bent the sides back to insert the other yokes!!

TOO SWEEEEEETT!!!

Got a little more done tonight.

I finished the drive shafts. I might need to shorten them a bit more, 1/4-1/2", but I won't be sure until I start making the links. (Can't add to, but you can always take away.)



I now have the chassis mocked up with the shocks attached temporarily.






Next up...

-Make all the links and steering links.
-Finish the servo mounts.
-Mount the servos.
-Attach the links.
-Figure out how I wanna mount the batteries and electronics.
-Mask and paint the body. I already have it cut out.
-Finish the skid plate.
-Make 3 more tire chains.
-Fine tune and test.


I should have it finished up sometime before the 4th of July.
