M18 Rally spec

Bothered by my local rat shak's price of the propulse and my need for a
get dirty mud basher. (my yard is a muddy mess from the melting snow)
I went ahead and threw together my other M18 with spare electrics...
Slapped on some xmod rubber over the m18 wheel inserts, then pressure
fit some SSMT 1:24 wheels on them. They arent coming off.


So here's my version of an M18-R :lol: :lol:
Just need a cool body now and shrink wrap the electronics.

wow.. sweet job, man! :)

any ideas on the body? as in, are you gonna give it a custom paint job?
and what car body do you want on it?

:???: i'd prolly go for something stupid like a funny car shell, but realistically, i reckon a Honda NSX one would go just fine, with a decent spoiler, mind... :-o

that is, if its on tarmac mostly.. i guess i've never seen a NSX rally car before lol..

Ordered a clear citroen xsara rc18r body 154mm wheelbase. Should
be fine on xray's 150mm.

haha. was running it outside this morning and flipped it. it has enough clearance to run upside down and not hurt anything. :lol:

this thing is fun. i'm definitly going to drop a mamba in it.

the body in clear is only 13$

Put an aluminum ball diff in the rear. Ive got another for the front, but i lost the lock nut for the adjusting shaft. :o

I'm working on fabbing up some taller shock towers so i can
use oil shocks and get a few more mm's of suspension travel.
the stock shocks are pitiful. (really the only negative about
the M18)

Why not convert to the M18T? Then use the touring shocks to lower the ride-height a little (this is a statement of ignorance, but my guts made me say it)

hmm you have a point, the 18T shock tower and oil shocks might be a direct swap since the diff housings are the same between versions. Thanks for the idea. :-o That should make life easier.

i will have to keep the standard m18 suspension arms because i need the
short width to maintain the rally car dimensions to fit the citroen body.


EDit: Yep the 18T shock towers and oil shock will fit the M18.

Great job Clint!!

I wish I had parts and chassis's and stuff to do something like that, oh well, some day :smile:

My question is, do the wheels rub against the chassis at all, or if they did, how did you go about fixing it??

Back of the chassis has no clearance issues, front needed to be filed down a bunch to allow for steering, Also had to relocate the servo back
1/2 inch. The whole job really wasnt much of an issue.

Cooool man....thats what I love about this hobby....if you stay in it long enough you end up with enough spare parts to build all sorts of stuff....I honestly can't remember how many junk-box racers I have built over the years...

This thing is turning into quite a project.

Couldnt use the original xray chassis as it was too short to
fit the Citroen body, alum chassis stretches it to 154mm.
The thin CF strips are for rigidity.

snagged a 4200kv mamba kit/esc up for this guy, some alum ball diffs,
a futaba s3102 servo and a 2s 1200 lipo.


next up is to paint the body. She's almost done. :eek:
