Question about an old school 4X4
My buddy dropped by with this old school Nikko today. He gave me the wrong TX so I dropped a different crystal in the RX and charged the battery up.
So, when I turn it on (with the TX <ON>) it just takes off forward at full speed. It has steering response but no throttle. Anyone know why, and what can I do to fix it.

Just a guess, but I'd have to say that Tx is just not compatible. You know how many ESCs have one touch setup, where you push a button and it syncs to the radio? It would seem to me that since you can't setup a Nikko board, you would have to use the radio that came with it.
But like I said, just a guess. I assume you've played with any trims on the Tx? Check for trim pots on the car's board?

Thanks everyone. Crazydave, I bet you're right about the TX. I will have him hunt for it. The dude just gave it to me because he knew I was into trucks... it probably hasn't been touched since the early 90's.
He gave me a 2 channel Traxxas stick controller with it... that got me thinking about what else he could have in his parents attic.
I can tell it's under powered and the steering sucks, but it's a cool toy none-the-less. Helluva lot sturdier than the shiite they put out now days.
As for the body.... lol, well, it sure would make a SWEET scaler.
The wheel base is ~9.5" -10" and the total length is 15".
I want to keep it intact in case he comes by in the next few months wanting it back... after that I may entertain some offers on the body.
