Question about an old school 4X4

My buddy dropped by with this old school Nikko today. He gave me the wrong TX so I dropped a different crystal in the RX and charged the battery up.

So, when I turn it on (with the TX <ON>) it just takes off forward at full speed. It has steering response but no throttle. Anyone know why, and what can I do to fix it.

Just a guess, but I'd have to say that Tx is just not compatible. You know how many ESCs have one touch setup, where you push a button and it syncs to the radio? It would seem to me that since you can't setup a Nikko board, you would have to use the radio that came with it.

But like I said, just a guess. I assume you've played with any trims on the Tx? Check for trim pots on the car's board?

What are the dimensions of that body? Length width wheelbase?

I had an old Nikko that I picked up at a garage sale for $0.75 minus a transmiter but my Xmod TX worked. If you have one around it might be worth a try.

That was my first thought.
Well, not exactly. The first thing to go through my mind, was "how much to take of your hands?"

Give us measurements! I would love to have a yota body like that.

Actually my uncle had one of those, and it had no power handling to speak of. It would stop dead on low cut grass, or the slightest incline. I think your best bet would be to stick something else under that body.

And I'll bet there is a good use for those diffs and axles.

Thanks everyone. Crazydave, I bet you're right about the TX. I will have him hunt for it. The dude just gave it to me because he knew I was into trucks... it probably hasn't been touched since the early 90's.

He gave me a 2 channel Traxxas stick controller with it... that got me thinking about what else he could have in his parents attic.

I can tell it's under powered and the steering sucks, but it's a cool toy none-the-less. Helluva lot sturdier than the shiite they put out now days.

As for the body.... lol, well, it sure would make a SWEET scaler.

The wheel base is ~9.5" -10" and the total length is 15".

I want to keep it intact in case he comes by in the next few months wanting it back... after that I may entertain some offers on the body.

How wide is it? Measure from the top of the wheel arch.

A quick measurement says 6-3/4" from outside the wheel well to outside wheel well.
