so this is what i've been using non stop for the last 2 weeks!
it's a kyosho pure ten alpha i picked up second hand for a steal! ($150 bruce dollars, rtr). it woulda come with a subaru wrx body but i said to the seller "look, i'm basically gonna fuck the body, if you wanna keep this pretty new one and throw in a beater then go for it!"
so that's the body i scored which i prefer to the other. it came with the flames and a bunch of brand name stickers (which i removed). i had to trim it a lot as it was a touring car body and i think it looks phat!
and it handles bloody well, it's a rally type chassis so a simple wheel change is all that's needed if i wanna get fussy about surface. it's got a 23 turn motor that kicks and a fancy abs brake esc.
and the camera fits in beautifully! great footage thanks to the smooth suspension.
i'm learning the hard way that smooth driving is better, i've busted plenty of parts already. but it's all part of the fun

That's cool. That's a straight up 4WD off road buggy with a car body on it. That thing should take a romping.
...but it will break, and I'm sure your gonna figure out exactly how.

Is the rule not "If you didn't break it then you are not using it right"?

is the rubber belt drive pretty standard now days?
way back when I had one running it was flip flopping between the belts and chains.

Belt drive is pretty much the standard, Cabo... But, there has been a whole lot of really nice shaft driven stuff coming out in the last couple of years...
I remember those old chain drive Tamiya and Kyosho buggies... Those were cool... Burly lookin' sumbitches lol.
@betty... That is pretty damn nice, man. Definately a steal... I can't wait to see what you do with it. I also can't wait to see some vid... be it in the dirt, or at that track that you guys go to.
EDIT... Damn, betty!... I just saw the for sale post on brucemicro by the dude you got it off of... That esc can handle motors down to 10 turns!!? Now I really really can't wait to see what you do with this thing!

yes i got a good deal! about $100 merikan. and i'm learning about the damage, either have a bank of spares or drive like a pussy!
the belt runs smooth, no slippage issues so far. but as mentioned a rock in the belt can be disastrous!
thankfully the important upgrades were already done on this, all i could want for at this stage is some oil shocks.

I had a Yokomo YZ-10 with belts and Trinity modified motor.
That thing hauled ass. Now I cant even find replacement belts. I still have the chassis and all the parts. I don't know why I'm keeping them
Sweet ride betty... lucky bastard

i've made some adjustments. i added some metal braces to the shock mounts to stiffen things up a little and help the shocks pivot smoothly. i also made a dust cover out of an old mouse pad and i bought a set of tamiya rally block tyres. the tyres grip the rough shit really well, nice aggressive tread. and a nimh pack too, big performance upgrade from the low capacity nicads i've been using.

That's because the tires are made from the skin off of a Cain Toads back.

actually, every run on the grass collects all sorts of wild life, kinda funny watching the dirt run away when you approach it with a screwdriver!
croikey!
