XM-02 Pan Chassis

Post by Mazda787b »

This project has taken a life of its own. Now, it it absolutely crazy! I started out with an acryllic pan chassis. Made out a plastic that alows for some flex, but is stiffened by a 3mm gold Carbon Fiber upper deck (in the pic it is wood because I am not finished cutting the CF yet). The chassis is long enough to accomodate some type of 1/24 model body, and wide enough to fit the 280-motor, electronics, and two li-ion batteries.

It has a modular rear pod system. one pod will be set up to run my prototype 280-class race motor (locked white diff). The next choice is to install the other motor pod with the AWD ball diff, and a ZL1 Pro motor. The rear end will be connected to the front drive system through a lightweight brass driveshaft. If I feel the brass is un-fit for the job, I will switch to a CF driveshaft. The power will be transferred to inside-outed xmod wheels (out fo rim kit 2) to my blue-compount foam racing tires.

All that is left to buy are the following:

Electronics - Great Planes Electrifly C-5 or C-10 ESC, Mini-X Reciever, GWS super micro servo, a new 280 motor with an open-ended enbell.

Drivetrain - Xmod AWD Kit, bearings, second motor pod

Other - Heat sink motormount for 130 motor, a heatsink for a 280-class motor that will be modified to incorperate battery heatsinks as well.

Finally, here are the pics:

@ Betty

Thanks, I wanted to build something that can compete with a highly modified MR-02MM.

@ Stagg

You can't run a 280-class motor with a Iwaver board. The electrifly C-5 has low voltage cutoffs for the lithiums, and is about as big as a paperclip.
