Muddin Crawlin SSMT WIP

Post by zzapultimate »

Welcome to my new project! There doesn't seem to be much being done with the 1:24 SSMT's. Sure their axles arn't as nice, but it'll do. Here's what I've come up with. It's a crawler, or is it a mudder? I havn't decided yet. Anyways, lets see some pics.

Here's just a mockup. I'm using a silverado model truck body. It needs a bunch of work.

First thing was to get the axles seperated so I could get the extension in.

Again, I havn't decided if I want to gear it down and have a rock crawler with the LRSM shocks, or keep it speedy and have a mudder. What I really would like would be to have some sort of transmission, a high and a low. I can go muddin until I get to the rocks, then switch it into low and really make it crawl. Either way, I think I'm having the motors and gears in the middle, driving the shaft.

That looks like you might end up with something pretty sweet. I'd go the crawler route, myself.

Btw, this Sunday's TRU ad has the 1:24 SSMT listed at $4.99, stock up on parts!

I'm leaning towards the crawler too. I think I'll keep the dual motor, and gear it down a bit.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll check it out!

Update:

Gearbox. I decided to go with a crawler. Pinion gear, plus 4 transfer gears onto the axle gear. I'll have to calculate that sometime.
