new micro heli i done bought

was at the local track/toy shop tonight and i spotted a cool looking 4ch counter rotating heli that i couldn't resist!

dunno what scale you call it, the blades are 7.5" in diameter. brand name is "nine eagles" so i'm guessing it's some chinese company we'll never see again!

in the air it's pretty damn stable, the controls do what they're told. i guess for the most part it's no different from other micro helis of this class but there are a few things about it that impressed me.

the radio is 2.4ghz for starters, i haven't pushed it too far but it hasn't skipped a beat. there's a neato lcd display that shows battery charge, trim points and a numerical throttle display (but who looks at the tx while flying?!)
Image

the big worry about most tx's is whether it's mode 1 or mode 2. but not with this little bugger! simply loosen 2 screws, flip the aerial the other way and turn the tx upside down! fucken genius!!
the removed cover is where you poke the battery for charging.
Image

another thing i thought was cool was the intergrated servos. they're basically a linear type deal, a worm gear is used for movement with (i assume) a linear pot for reference.

and the crowning glory........

good ol' glow in the dark bits!

but you'd be a darn fool kid if you flew a heli in the dark! :-x

I got a chance to fly one of those things at the LHS.

great bird to fly and if it ever did go tits up, those servos could be used for bits. :???:

they do look pretty similar, i figured this had to be a clone of something good.

but the flip flop tx idea still has me impressed! :)

So how much damage?

That looks like a pretty nice bird. What's the mode 1 mode 2 thing about?

Mode 1 the throttle is on the right side, and mode 2 its on the left side, Mode 2 is most common, I think the only place that mode 1 is commonly used, is Europe.

what he said.

Looks pretty good. If it flys anyting like the MCX you have a winner. If it was less than $129 you have a real winner!

It's about that price at the LHS here and I've already ordered one.

A little bigger but from the same company.

picked mine up today for about 120 canadian.

this thing is a solid flier. needs a fair bit of trim but once it's sorted, flies like a champ. I just had a successful flight up from the basement, along the stairs and into the living room.

fun!

now, the question is.. who's going to come up with the first mods for these things? and what will they be? battery mod? more powerful motors? faster flight speeds?

okay after flying this thing almost all day, i've found out a couple things about this.

One, one of the motors doesn't quite spin up as quick as the other, so that's likely bad lubrication inside the motor, leading to higher energy consumption and therefore shorter flight times. they also get HOT.

two, the flybar linkage is quite tight, so a sanding the ball a little frees it up nicely.

got a buddy to film a flight. http://s86.photobucket.com/albums/k95/S ... solo01.flv

okay. i'll admit. i'm so jazzed by this thing i can't stop talking about it.

I've already stuck a 200mah battery on it and i've pulled off a ton of weight. this thing is FUN!

i've already buzzed a buddy while he was sitting on the floor and i'm now doing all sorts of goofy shit with it. And it is bulletproof.

seriously.

If you haven't got one, then what are you waiting for? go get it.

mine's pretty robust too although i haven't crashed it hard yet.

so far only mod i've done is to tilt the pcb back so the servo rods move in a more linear motion thanks to the link murdoch threw up. made a really big difference to flight speed! :-o

i got one got me one of these as well.same glowey one!

$160,got a spare battery, rotors and a flybar.

click the not throttle stick down (like a playstation L3 or R3 button on the sticks) and aparently it smoothes out inputs (noob mode).
