Another one. this time it has to do with the battery. I love the shit that powers these things.

So I tore out the old battery and strapped in a 200mah lipo.

"dude that's crazy! it's too much for these little helis!" you say?

Nay, scribe; tis not! It has everything to do with removing weight in other areas.

So out come the choppers, chop chop!

Old battery holder: gone. Replaced with a bit of zapstrap and a small elastic band.

"But what about the connection to the heli? did you think of that?" you ask.

Way ahead of you there.

I had an old 2.5" laptop hard drive that was dead so I.... CANNIBALIZED IT!

Image

Also had a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter.. munched on that one too and that turned into the battery plug.

I'm getting about a 11-12 minute flight time out of it, but it is an older lipo so it's most likely not as good as it could be.

I'm also thinking of trying either this hyperion 120mah or this 240mah cell

OK so I ordered 1 of these 2 months ago and nothin. Still shows back order and e-mail unanswered from 10 days ago. Back order is 1 thing but 2 months and then not to answer. I'm getting pissed!

Follow up** I finally got an answer and he did ship. Received and works but buyer beware! Site still shows backorder.

Thanks to the US and their insane shipping prices, I looked overseas for batteries. I found the hyperion ones I wanted in OZ of all places, and placed an order.

so they should be here in about three weeks or so, depending on circumstances.

So the ones I ordered were both the 120mah and 240mah lipos. Weight difference is two grams.

Best feature of these? 5C charge. ten to fifteen minute charge times. yeah. holy shit is right.

Once I get them wired up ready for use, I'll give you guys a flight report.

well isn't this a fuckup.

Paypal never sent the email notification to peninsula hobbies telling them that the money's been deposited into their account and so my order sat in limbo for three weeks.

but after calling them to find out what happened, they were glad to ship it out asap.

I think this was enough to turn me off paypal and get a prepaid credit/debit card.

jesus christ after what felt like a bloody aeon or two these things to arrive, they're finally here. now all I have to do is see if i can actually solder the leads and hook em up to the heli.. then it'll be time for a flight test.

what, no one's interested in the new batts in this thing and how they perform?

Anyways, i did a mixed-mode flight test. some hovering and some circuits.

From that method of flying, I've found out the 120mah gives about ten minutes of flight time, three over the stock 110mah battery.

and the 240 mah gave me almost 18 minutes of flight.

The best thing about these is the 5C (yes FIVE) charge rate so I can be flying longer than these things take to charge.

so get two 240's and you'll be flying all day. aw hell who am I kidding. grab four of em, they're 7 and a quarter each. super cheap. Shipping from from Peninsula hobbies (Melbourne, Australia) was 17 bucks. for ten day air mail.

I gotta say though. I did notice that when I did a full power climb, the heli rotated, signifying one motor was weaker than the other. And after doing a little digging around, the superslicks motors do fit, but with some modifications. more info on this post: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost ... count=1250

Your full power climb rotation sounds more like a blade angle issue to me than having a weak motor. I'd tweak a little more AOA onto the blades traveling is same rotation of your helicopter. Heli spin CW, more AOA on the blades going CW.

My dad got an MCX for christmas, it rocks! No wonder you guys have been raving about them.

Frizzen, the heli I have is the nine eagles solo.

I stripped it down last night to parts and gave all the moving parts a dab of oil, thinking it was binding somewhere.

but as soon as I put the one motor back, i found out that it was sticking. so yeah, it seems these motors like to bunge up real quick.

No idea about the MCX since I don't own one.

So next on the chopping block is to grab a set of didel motors and shove em in.
