peter wrote:The pilot involved was flying a Bronze Wings test , and was part way through the last manoeuver, the landing; while his machine was hovering off to his left, prior to the ascent , it veered towards us , the blades caught the pilot just above his eye... a lot of his skull was clearly visible....
I was standing beside him , doing the testing ; thats as close as I ever want to be to spinning blades ......
As Lyle says , his hat , while now destroyed , appears to have absorbed a lot of the forces .......
And he was flying very competently leading up to this .. there wasn't a wind gust , and the heli tested ok afterwards , no frequency conflicts ....
He's cranky because he failed the test though !!! Says he'll be flying again next weekend ...

btw the heli appears to have come out OK too ; broken woodies , bent flybar and spindle, creased canopy seems to be all .....

That dude is seriously lucky to be alive. If that hit his neck, we'd be seeing a picture of a closed casket funeral.

I refuse to take the dog with me when I go flying. I get shit for it..but I prefer to have 1 dog instead of 2 peices. He's only a 10lb daschund.
