Hopefully my Micro T is on the way! Ceramics? 130 motor mod?

I think I got a pretty good deal on one. I ordered the Atomic "BB" Motor, screw set, body clips, and the gearset from TheToyz.com (RJ is a truely fine dude to work with!)
I have a Novak Micro GT ESC and XXL RX to put in it, and I'm going to attempt a HS55 board on the stock servo. Has anyone put a 130 size motor in it, or would the weight be insane? I was thinking about getting a MZM motor made for this with ball bearings and a fairly high winding. My plan is to make a drift machine for the kitchen with a BRP dirt oval body and the hardest wheels I can find. Maybe even alloy wheels with foamies.
Does anyone know what the pitch is on the gearing? Losi is fond of 48, but maybe it's more because of the scale. *shrug*
I'm going to hit atomicmods.com for a ceramic ball bearing set unless anyone knows of an alternative. Mostly for bragging rights... just because it's ceramic doesn't mean they are precisely made (abec rating.) Anyone know the size of the bearings so I can maybe hit up bocabearings.com?
EDIT:
Bearing Sizes:
8 - 2x5x2.5mm
2 - 3x6x2.5mm
I can find 120k rpm ceramic tranny bearings, but not the wheel bearings.

Scale does not matter as far as friction is concerned. It would definately matter, BUT getting ceramics for the sake of it isn't going to matter. For instance, atomicmods.com has a complete ceramic set for $30ish. They absolutely can not be Abec 5 Ceramics (120K RPM) because those are $20 for JUST the two tranny bearings. I can't even find high grade ceramics for the wheels yet, but boca is pretty good about staying on top of the RC world and maybe they will put out something. VBX has always seemed overpriced to me, but thier high-grade bearings are top notch. Atomic mods hasn't released info on thier bearings other than the sizes. I wonder what composition, Abec/ISO tolerances, seals, etc. One would assume they are metal, single shielded, with chrome grooves and abec 1. The VBX bearings I was looking at were Abec 5, and they had bearings for the tranny that were over $40 ea I believe. Of course they were hybrid ceramic (not full ceramic which I can't find at all) with stainless races and shields. REALLY nice Abec 5s. They even have ceramics with rubber shields (pretty awsome for cleaning) but rubber seals have lower rpms.
I don't really care at this point. I think I'm just going to order some atomic mods. I'm getting too old to be the best on the block.

IMHO, I wouldn't think it would be cost effective, but the motor still will get hot and still needs to spin freely. Although they aren't high RPM motors............. so I don't know what I'm talking about.....hogjowlz wrote:do you think ceramics on that small of a scale are going to matter? i just installed the losi ones today and they are pretty goddamn awesome.

pimpsmurf, good deal you got there, I bet he has almost 3x that amount in it.

Yeah, it's a good deal if I actually recieve it. haha
Actually, I think these little motors are turning 50k unloaded which is pretty high rpms for such a small scale.

No abec 5s for the tranny unless you go with non ceramics.
I believe ceramics will last much much longer than stainless bearings given the same maintainence.
Email from atomicmods.com:
[q]The cage and shields are steel, and the balls are of course ceramic. The
ABEC rating is 5.[/q]
Steel sucks, but these things are WAY CHEAP, and they are at least abec 5 so that is pretty sweet. Just keep um oiled so they don't rust!

Yeah, I used Abec 9 ceramics in a longboard of mine, and even experienced street skateboarders had issues just keeping balance while standing still. The friction coefficient is insane.
They typically last 5x as long as normal bearings, which is a long long long time if you take care of them. Cleaning is important, I have a bearing blaster and I use to just wail on them with that thing. It knocks the junk out quick. If they last 5x as long, and cost 2-3x as much, it's a good deal. I'm basically getting them for bragging rights, but if they help at all it's "A Good Thing" (tm)
I have them ordered so we will know in a week or so when I have everything. My micro-t comes with bearings, so I'll be able to compare!
Crazydave, long time no see. Hope it's hanging strong.
